But I don't visit that thread much and I'm hoping someone here knows. Is there any way to turn up the brightness on windows media player? I have a DVD of my first dive, taken by the dive shop, but the really interesteing things we saw are mostly under the rims of coral formations at about 30 feet.

I know the color is off because of the way water absorbs color, but the majority of the shots under the overhangs are too dark to even tell what the photographer was looking at.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's kinda involved, but here goes.

Go to Tools -> Options -> Performance -> Advanced and under the Video Acceleration on the left hand side, there's a bunch of checkboxes.

I don't remember 'zactly which one it is. But I actually just turn 'em all off and that seems to do the trick. With a bit of experimentation, I'm sure you could figure out exactly which one (or ones) works, but turning them all off doesn't seem to have had a negative effect on any of my media files.

p.s. I've never touched the ones on the right hand side. No idea what they do.

Actually, they do. It's just behind a sort of hidden panel in you video properties.

If you right click somewhere on your screen, then select "Properties" from the menu, it will take you to your video properties screen. Select the "Settings" tab at the top, then click the "Advanced" button. this screen will have tabs to adjust all sorts of things dealing with your video card and your monitor. Under one of those tabs, usually "Color Controls", you should find an adjustment for "Overlay". That will increase the brightness of Media player as well as any other video or DVD players without effecting the brightness in other applications.

If you want to adjust the overall brightness of all your applications, use the brightness adjustment on your monitor. ;)
