I am, for the most part, on board with the "legalize it" crowd, even though I don't use myself and generally disapprove of the habit. I have been convinced that there is no good reason for it to be illegal, and that any arguments against it are arbitrary and inconsistant.
That said, I get a bit tired if the pro-pot crowd treating the plant like a holy grail, and the efforts to do so come off as silly and reaching.
I've seen it argued that:
Marijuana can cure cancer (as well as a litany of other ailments).
Maijuana can replace lumber for paper and construction.
Marijuana being legal will singlehandedly end orgainized crime in most of the New World.
Marijuana will save the economy.
So, good ole Mary Jane will make jobs, end crime, cure your cancer, build your house, stop global warming, and still have time to give you an affordable and non-addictive buzz.
So, do you buy the pitch that pot is basically a maricle material that will save the world, or are smokey and the bandit just streatching for way to legitimize their favorite vice?
