Prince Willie free!

Oh, really? So, they are letting her be Queen? Neat. An improvement over the Edward VIII/Wallis Simpson days. Mind you, as it turned out, we dodged a bullet with him...the bloody fascist.

Don't think they have much choice, unless they pressure Charles to abdicate. He's the crown prince and she's married to him: therefore she will be queen.

Of course if her ex-hubby dies in the meantime the royals would probably be less uncomfortable about it (as she would then be a widow, not a divorcee)

Queen Camilla....that should be interesting. And King Charles III. He'll have been Prince of Wales as long and late as Edward VII was under Queen Victoria pretty soon.

He may not be King Charles. He has a few other names to choose from. No one expected his grandfather to be crowned as George.

King Charles I and II are not necessarily good models to follow and Prince Charles is well aware of Royal history.

I understand about Charles I, but what was wrong with the second? Aside from leaving his throne to his brother, I mean.

The Merry Monarch was a difficult pill to swallow after the Puritans of the Commonwealth. Some consideration for those of his supporters who had bankrupted themselves in the cause of the monarchy would have been politic. Charles II was not a sympathetic character when England needed healing, not scandal and Royal mistresses.

Og

Edited for PS. He had a good choice in mistresses. I like some of Nell Gwyn's quotes e.g. Nell is famous for a remark made to her coachman, who was fighting with another man who had called her a whore. She broke up the fight, saying, "I am a whore. Find something else to fight about."

Hmmm....I always liked that he had mistresses, but never married. It's just too bad that he couldn't have legitimised one of his sons, so that James II couldn't be King.

As for consideration of the Royalists, do you mean rewards?

No. Just recognition of past services instead of banishment from court because they were now broke.

Ouch....that's a tad harsh. Didn't know that Charles had such a mean streak.
