It's Pride month and time again for Wichita Pride. If last year was
an example of what we can expect from PRIDE, then this year is going to
be HUGE.

There will plenty to see and do so make sure you're there.

The parade starts at 2:00 p.m. (Historic Courthouse) and will move down
Main street to the PRIDE location.

We look forward to seeing everyone there. Wichita Pride, Inc:

NOTICE – send out today, Saturday

Spirit One Church will picket Wichita Pride parade this Sunday, June 24th, 2:00 p.m.

An official from the Wichita Police Department has informed Pride parade organizers that picketers from Spirit One Church will be out to protest the parade and other events tomorrow. Pride organizers ask that people who support gay rights come out and be a peaceful presence to counter the protesters. The parade starts at 2 p.m., June 24, at the Historic Courthouse 510 N. Main, Wichita and will move down Main street to the Pride Festival in Heritage Park at Main and Williams.

my town too... but i am only a few hours from SF so I get all the pride I need there between the Pride walk, the AIDS walk, and the park... ha ha

Since Connecticut is just a suburb for New York City, all of the Pride events there suffice.

I guess their was a parade and one heck of a party downtown. I don't even go to the rose festival, so I didn't follow to closely. A friend of mines brother has an apartment down there and he said that it was one HELL of a party, though.

I might try one of the new bars with a friend of mine tomorrow, I mostly ignore it.

We had some great sounding events here but my kids were not that hot to go.

I was all for it.

Sister Rebecca actually posted them here. I was to go to a play party on Friday night (not mentioned in the article), but ended up working on my writing. Went to the Dyke March with friends, which I do every year and is ALWAYS awesome. Yea!

I also went to the women's play party after. I don't go to the parade anymore, unless I am marching with a group in conjunction with work (health or political). It's just too darn long (over 4 hours). I will have it on in the background on TV tonight while I work. I usually try to catch some of the music if I am not working a booth at the celebration, but spent today with ~D instead... :rose: Neon

P.S., someday I WILL find someone to take me on the back of her motorcycle at the front of the parade with Dykes on Bikes!

Just got back from our parade - we had 2 days worth of parades and rally (long story but there is some division in the community right now). I have gone every year for the last 20 plus years. And I am with you Neon - I am going to be on the back of one of the Dykes on Bikes motorcycles yet!

Links to a couple pics and my flickr account that I took pics of the Dykes vs Drag Queen game and the parade - feel free to browse.

We have a rainbow festival each year, it lasts a week and ends with a parade.
This year it's 19-28 october.
During the week most of the gay clubs have open house and parties with different themes, and there is a whole bunch of lectures that you can go to.

I so miss San Francisco Pride. Ours here was a few weeks ago and it was okay. Kind of low key.

What about a West Coast lit gathering next year around pride time? It could be just as fun as having one around Folsom! :nana:

Hmmmm...if I can swing in, I'd love to! Meanwhile, I'll be in your neck of the woods soon actually. I would looooove to meet the famous Miss Neon, although I have a feeling it will be a whirlwind trip.

(famous = *big chuckle*)

I would love to go to SF's pride events - we had actually talked about it yesterday. The current political schism in our community has really created chaos in our festivities (lord knows what next year will bring) so we thought it would be wonderful to go check out San Fran.

Oh Goddess, why? You were on the main stage! In DC! That rocks! :catroar:

Where was the DC celebration, btw? It sort of looks the Washington Mall???

Hey, maybe we could start having Lit Kinky Pride gatherings all over the U.S.

:) Neon
Are you kidding? San Francisco has got to have the best Pride on the PLANET!

The DC parade is mostly in Dupont Circle and adjoining gay areas, but the DC festival is on Pennsylvania Ave. Check this out:

Yup, that's a bunch of gay cowboys dancing in front of the U.S. Capitol!

And Ella Fitzgerald with the Capitol, too!

Grrr! I just keep getting this error message with a frog on it saying that image shack has been disabled for this domain!!! I can't see your photos. Love gay cowboys (the Texan in me will out, LOL). And Ella Fitzgerald! That's just too

Postscript...

Etoile, a little bird just sent me your pics through PM. They cheered me up just when I needed it. Etta James is magnificent! (Did you know that she grew up in San Francisco?) And the gay cowboys! (Wonder if "President Shrub" was watching, LOL)
