LA COLISION DEL VALKYRIE….8/06/1966

The one surviving XB-70 is currently on display at the USAF museum in Dayton, OH. This was a very preventable accident, which resulted from unexpected affects from flying too close. The accident occurred during a photo shoot PR event.

F-104 pilot Joseph Walker (former World War II veteran and X-15 test pilot), and XB-70 co-pilot Carl Cross were killed in the resulting accident. XB-70 pilot Alvin White suffered injury but survived.

Although never flown in any operational missions, and was pretty much outdated before testing was completed, the XB-70 is an impressive sight. I can only imagine how those six engines much rumble when in full afterburner.
