the Air Force gets a nice smooth mile long air strip.

The Navy get a 300’ flight deck on a moving carrier. It has a tail hook that has to grab 1 of 4 arrest wires 3 on a newer carrier, if not he needs to be going fast enough to get his jet airborne again. They actually throttle up on landing.

This thing was pretty hilarious. The Soviets made this POS as a total and literal ripoff of the real Concorde. But the communists never thought about things like customer comfort, profitability, efficiency, or safety.

I so badly wanted to be a pilot. I am a complete aircraft carrier nut: I watch all the documentaries, I read novels and books, and of course, there was that friend of my father's who flew A-7s in the very early 1980s, and a good friend's dad flew A-6s in Vietnam and owns a plank on the Enterprise.

My family won't come with me to the USS Midway museum anymore because I spend too much time listening to the retired pilots talk about their careers and talking about Corsairs.

I admit I am a poseur, who knows more than he should about something he will never experience in person!

I’ve been on the Lexington and Midway. The midway was decommissioned around the same time I enlisted. Other than that I haven’t really been on a carrier. I have been on a couple assault ships. watching helicopters, Osprey and Harriers is cool, but it’s kind of slow pace.

I was talking, some time back, with a Corsair WW11 pilot, he commented they were quicker than the P51, he knew as he had a few races against them from time to time. He did rattle off all the performance numbers, it was hands down faster and would pull away in a straight line.
