P-47, the flying "Jug" or "Milk Bottle" due to the resemblance of a milk bottle. almost indestructible.

They would come back to base all shot up and the engines would be missing entire cylinders and yet they brought their pilots back home unscathed.

The British,used to the tight Spitfire cockpit,used to say that the Jug was so big that the pilot could "get up and walk around in it".
