I had sex for the first time recently. My so and I have been very careful to use a condom. My period has never been like clockwork, but now I'm waiting and waiting...I'm kind of scared. I don't want to tell him until I'm certain there's something to be concerned about. I'm a little scared. OK, Very scared. I don't know what to do. Could I be pregnant?

First off, take a deep breath, being scared is completely understandable, but won't change anything.

There are a lot of reasons a woman can be late, illness, stress, quirks of nature. Heck, the events of last week threw me off a few days. The only way to know for sure quickly is a pregnancy test. The drugstore variety have gotten significantly easier and more accurate, try one of those first. Also, many communities have organizations that offer free pregnancy tests in addition to counseling should the test be positive.

Good luck, crossing my fingers for the best.

It is completly natural to have those feelings after the first time, and even after that for a while. it can happen, but you did use a condom, so that is a good thing. Just relax, and take a deep breath. The stress of worrying can make you miss your period as well. If you are any later then 3 or 4 days from your normal period, you can try a home pregnancy test.

Now, if you are not pregnant, and plan to continue on with sexual activity, you should look into using another method of Birth Control, then just a condom. Keep using the condom, but check into alternate methods as well. Down below somewhere, is a thread I started yesterday that discusses the pro's and con's, and price, of all the different birth control methods available to women today.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask, either here, or a friend, parent, or doctor.
