Hello - I've never been pregnant but want to write in a pregnant character. how does a woman's body change? for example, breasts (i assume they get larger, nipples get bigger, darker, i've seen photos), but do the genitals externally change? does your sex drive increase/decrease, can you have sex during pregnancy? when do you start lactating? pardon my ignorance. any advice welcome.

The body changes vary from woman to woman... so does the sex drive for that matter. I've heard a lot of women say they got a huge surge during the second trimester, but I never experienced it. When I was pregnant, I just wanted to be left alone. (and yes, as long as there are no complications that make a dr say no, you can have sex during pregnancy).

I didn't start lactating (that I could tell) until after the birth and even then, the actual milk didn't come in until about 3-4 days later. With my second and third pregnancy, my milk never came in (when your milk comes in, your breasts get really heavy, tight, and warm).

Yes - I must agree with Crim that every woman is different.

For both of mine I was horribly nauseous for 8 weeks. Morning, noon and night. I actually lost weight with both pregnancies during the first three months.

(It's OK, I gained it all back and then some.)

But - once past that horrible nauseousness? I was randy as a newt.

I needed serious sex or at least a quick O every single day.

(This was more with the first pregnancy, though. Having a child around did lessen the frequency, if not the desire, during the second.)

Your body becomes more limber because of birth preparation. More soft in areas, certainly more lubed, definitely more sensitive.

And without having to worry about an unwanted pregnancy?

Delicious.

:cathappy:

Oh - also -

As Crim said, you do not lactate until several days after the child is born.

But sometimes at the latter stages of pregnancy some of the colostrum, the sticky, antibody-rich, pre-milk, is secreted in small amounts.

So don't write about milk everywhere - that would be inaccurate.

Well, Ive been pregnant three times, have two kids and know a little of what you ask.

Yes the breasts change, at first they are soooo sore, every nerve ending seems to end at your breasts. They get fuller, more tender and yes the nipple and areola get darker.

As for sex drive, the first trimester was just trying to get enough sleep to deal with changes in the body. Second, now that was when hubby loved me most! lol I was pretty much game for anything. Even into the third but nearer the end its just uncomfortable to do it missionary so you have to experiment. I was funny, Dr suggested me on top if I was interested in bringing on the delivery! Im not sure if that actually works, it didnt for me! lol

You start lactating 2-3 days after the delivery, but your breasts start 'leaking' colstrum (sp) which is the good stuff everyone says a baby needs, its like liquid vitamins.

Now depending on how the delivery went and how 'good' your baby is and how you are adapting to parenthood depends on when the interest of sex comes back. My first I was scared to try anything, stitches and the "YOU MUST WAIT 6 WEEKS" from the dr makes things a little nerve racking. Now with the second, she was a dream, easy delivery, no stitches, little bleeding, so we started before the 6 weeks were up.

Hope that helps,
C

Something that no one's mentioned....

I forget what it's called, but if a woman is olive-complected, she'll get a dark pigmented line running from her navel down - I did with all three of mine.

It disappears completely after pregnancy, though.

Ive only know that as the mask of pregnancy, not sure what the belly line was called either. Some women get alot more hair on their tummy from the hair line up to the button. Maybe its just more pronounced due to the darkening.

Everyone's been right on, so far. One thing I haven't seen addressed is changes to the external genitalia. Pregnant woman are full of growth hormones, so their pubic hair grows a lot, too. Bushes often become beautiful thick thatches, ensuring warmth and privacy for the baby. Also, as the pregnancy progress, the entire vulva will swell gradually which not only slightly alters the appears but is responsible for that extra sensitivity that has been mentioned. It's not like women get great big giant pussies, but the labia (majora AND minora) are darker in color and a little bigger than normal. From an internal perspective, this swelling will also make her pussy tighter than when she's not pregnant.

If you're trying to do serious research, I'd go to your local library and check out the book Making Love During Pregnancy by Elizabeth Bing. There are a lot of practical things you have to figure out once that great big belly makes missionary sex uncomfortable.
