Why Should I Not Be Eating A Coupla Dozen Pieces Of Toro!

I Have Heard Twice In Two Days That Sushi Is A No No When Yer Pregnant, WHY!?

Actually, it's not just Sushi, but any salt-water fish (cooked or not), because of the presence of fairly high levels of heavy metals (especially mercury) that are proven teratogens. Essentially, the reason is that heavy metals may contribute to birth defects.

Raw fish can have bacteria and/or parasites that could be extremely harmful to a developing fetus. While they can make an adult sick, they can cause severe damage to a baby, whose immune system is not as strong.

Recently, doctors have expanded the list of bad items, but I know that shellfish in general is not good either. There are probably websites with this information as well.

RudeNasty ....

I'll eat twice as much NASTY..
then tell you how it was:eek:

Take care of that little one RNAB. :) No raw fish!

I completely lost my appetite for sushi after pregnancy, with the notable exception of ahi tuna.

The Doc Never Mentioned This Shit Before:mad:

Well, I'm actually not sure what the most recent recommendations are regarding eating fish during pregnancy, so don't take my word as absolute gospel. I've heard some people say that pregnant women shouldn't eat any fish, others say that they should just avoid larger, top-of-the-food-chain fish (heavy metals are found in higher concentrations in these fish because the metals aren't eliminated and become more and more concentrated as they move up the food pyramid. the same of amount of mercury becomes concentrated in fewer and fewer fish). I've also heard some people say you should eliminate ocean fish completely, others that you should just cut down.

Congrats RNAB! I somehow completely missed this news until now. How wonderful!

Hmm, the doc with the melon mams looks vaguely familiar. Can't quite place him, though...

*bask bask*

You can still eat Kappa Maki and Tamago sushi
~ the sushi of choice for discerning vegetarians ;) ~

You also should stay away from aspartame (artificial sweetner), bologna and hot dogs. The risks just aren't worth it. Oh and ....
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
I miss being pregnant :(

Actually, I miss being pregnant as well.

Hmmm, is that odd?

CONGRATS, RNAB!! May you and yours be healthy!!
