Posting Pix???

I have been trying to post actual pix in my posts.... but they are not coming out. I dont want to use the attach file button..... so please can someone tell me how to get a pic to show up in my post????

If they are on your computer you can only use the attach function. To actually see the pic on Lit they have to be on a website.

Hotlinking images from other websites is done with the IMG tags (see https://forum.literotica.com/misc.php?action=bbcode#buttons for the instructions on how to use them)

The most common problems with using the IMG tgs is that a URL to the image itself is required -- i.e. a URL that ends in JPG, GIF, or BMP and not one that has 'PHP," "CGI," a question mark, "HTML," or other script call or database call imbedded in it.

Since the IMG tags hotlink images from other sites, a picture can't be hosted on a site that is hotlink protected -- like geocities or angelfire -- nor can it be hosted on a site that requires a password or cookie to view the picture -- like Yahoo Albums or webTV saved images.

Images hosted on slow servers will often "time out" and not display at Lit, especially in threads with a lot of other images. Those images can sometime be individually refreshed with the "show picture" option on IE's right-click context menu.

That usually indicates that access to the picture requires a password or userID cookie although it's sometimes caused by hotlink protection seeing the wrong "previous URL" in the rquest for the image.

To use the IMG tags, the BB software has to be able to access the image freely and it isn't programmed to use your password and/or cookies to access things that seem freely accessible to you.

Unfortunately, there isn't any way to be absolutely sure.

There are some things that should make you suspect youwon't be able to hotlink pictures:

If you have to login to a site and can't bookmark any pages within the site to bypass the login page, you probably can't use those images.

If you can't bookmark a picture, you probably can't hotlink it.

Your cookies and temporary internet files can confuse the issue, and some pictures will only work at certain times of the day or for a short period before hotlink protection kicks in.

The only way to be sure is to try to link the picture and preview your post to see if it shows up. You'll soon get a feel for whch sites will allow hotlinking and which won't.
