Does anyone actually like it?

Seriously, I have never heard anyone in the real world comment that they actually like it. At best some people seem indifferent to it. If I criticize it, people usually either agree with me or simply give me a confused look like they don't even know what I'm talking about. I guess the best thing you can say for post-modern design is that its not really all that noticeable if you don't know what you're looking at.

I guess the real question is how long until this hideous yet simultaneously non-descript "style" (using that term loosely) is going to be de rigeur in architecture and commercial interior design. Even modernism eventually ran its course, yet this living nightmare of "post-modern" shows no sign of going away. If anything its getting worse.

Personally, it makes me want to vomit.

I like some of it for offices but not for living areas. It's just too impersonal and cold. I like danish modern.

I think people like building it because it's easy in many ways.

Why be so set against it? There are indeed some hideous things out there that go too far, but those border on kitch anyhow. At the same time, there are also some lovely pieces (fewer, indeed).

I'm not into that type of office furnniture, but when it comes to sculpture: it rocks! I don't know much about arts, but I personally fell in love with Constantin Brancusi's pieces (not exactly post-mod. but still kinda there). They are vibrant, fluid and all those layered meanings... They make me feel good and 'spiritual', whereas, for some strange reason, classic paintings make me feel depressed.
How can you say eek to these, for example?

I like some of it; and like most things, I don't like all of it. But the stuff I don't like doesn't make me vomit. You need to take it all less seriously. Variety is the spice of life. :)

Having said that, I appreciate a thread on architecture . . . .

Me too. I generally like Renard's threads, even though a few people disagree with some of his ideas. He tends to bring new things to the table, and makes me read about things that I would be too lazy to even think about, otherwise.
Who would have thought that an erotic site makes us think of issues such as history, society or architecture!!
Thanks, Renard
