Found a World War Two film on Turner Classic Movies that I had not seen before, unusual as I thought over the years I had seen them all. “Air Force” a 1943 film with Gig Young, about B-17’s from the Mainland to Hawaii, to Wake Island and to the Philippines.

Most, if not all WW2 films are patriotic in one way or another, some more or less than others. The same holds somewhat true for Korean War films, although their were pinko's in the film industry even then, apologists for the Soviet Union and Communist China.

But come around to Vietnam, and perhaps only “Green Beret’s” with John Wayne and a very few others maintained a, support America, patriotic theme, thanks to the anti-war left of the era.

And here we go again, since it is nigh impossible, even on Fox News, to get favorable information on Iraq, I well imagine the films in the future will be cast through the left wing media of liberal Lollywood.

Thankfully there will be military footage of combat and unit efforts to rebuild roads and schools and the other infrastructure of Iraq. Not the most exciting stuff I suppose, but in the hands of a good writer, I am sure stories will be written. Not that they will be made into films, but who knows what the future holds.

It isn’t that I glorify or romanticize war, but for those young men and women who risked and gave their lives to liberate the oppressed peoples of Europe, Japan , Korea and Southeast Asia in general and now Iraq, there should be proud remembrance of their valiant efforts.

The ‘Shock and Awe’ of the march to Baghdad, will possibly be told for the magnificent logistic and modern warfare event that it was.

Perhaps some of the decision makers and military commanders in their memoirs will make note of it; perhaps some of the young men and women, in the infantry or the tank corps, or the A-10 Warthog’s, or on the Aircraft Carriers, will have a story to tell. Perhaps even here on the Author’s Forum lurks a young, unbiased, unspoiled writer who will pen those future stories.

I hope so.
