I see posts over and over about people who can't understand why someone would have an alt, and none of the feedback any of us who do have one gives seems to stick. But I'll say it again anyway.
I dont understand why people give a fuck if anyone has an alt or not. Calling people "spineless" and "sad" for having one is insulting and, frankly, says more about who you are than it does about me.
I have an alt for several reasons, primarily that I am quite visible here due to my pic thread, and the number of PMs I'd get for some of my alt's posts would be out of control and I just don't need to deal with them. I'd like to explore some of my RL problems and kinks without people who know SweetSam knowing about them. Period. All of this bullshit about not being true to yourself and trying to be someone else strikes me as odd. It's the Internet. We're all essentially strangers here behind our usernames.
If people use their accounts, alts or otherwise, to fuck with people, that's something entirely different. People do that all the time, and don't need an alt to do so. Seems to me that your insults should be directed at them, and not at all people with multiple usernames.

On a serious note- Some alts are created and used specifically for rendering havoc. Others are done for legitimate facets of the original name's personality. I can think of one lovely Lit lady who has had at least 3 dif names. No, I am not naming names. All were dif facets of her true personality.
In case any one cares (I doubt it), I am only dirtwrench. I do not have time to be anyone or anything else. It is just me.

This is my alt. I agree with SweetSam, those of us who have an alt have our reasons for doing so.... And we don't need to defend it to anyone here.

The ALT key should not be confused with the Altmode key (sometimes also labelled Alt) on some Teletype and ASCII terminals.

Fuck! I thought if I hit ALT when I went to post that it made me anonymous and used one of my forty alts!!!
I think the reason behind the alt matters. Is the purpose of the alt to fuck over and harm people? Then yes, an alt is a shitty thing.
I don't use alts, but just this last week I considered using one to post a question about a medical condition of a family member. It wasn't because I wanted to fuck anyone over that I considered using the alt, but because I didn't want lots of PMs about it or people knowing something this personal about a member of my family. Some people are super personal. Other people post everything out there for all of Lit to see. What's right for one is not necessarily right for another. Unless, of course, it is...
