Possible Bug Caused by Room Names

I feel like chat breaks whenever one enters a room with forward slash (/) in the room name.
Just now I went to chat three different times. Everything working perfectly fine.
Clicked on a room that was empty out of curiosity that had a forward slash in the title and it never opened.
Reloaded chat, returned to the other rooms I was in perfectly fine.
Tried the same room again, same result. Rooms no longer opened.
Reloaded chat a third time, suspecting this room was the cause.
Went into random rooms on the list, all worked perfectly normal.
Tried another room with a forward slash in the room title that also happened to be empty.
Wouldn't work and once again prevented me from opening other rooms.
There is something about rooms with a forward slash in the title that breaks chat you might want to investigate.

Ive tested and it does seem to be broken, it's not really going to cause anyone a problem though. Since no one can join a room with a / in the name, it will always be empty. Creating a room with a / just results in an unusable room that will get cleaned up when we close the empty rooms (and I tested that too). Just don't create rooms with a / in the name ;)

The problem is about chat actually failing to work after someone tries to enter a room.
Supposing like I was, you're already in other rooms before entering the forward slash room.
After clicking the forward slash room, the room list closes, but no further tabs open.
You not only cannot enter the forward slash room, but no other rooms on the list.
It also kills your ability to type in any room you're in at the same time.
The problem is worse than just having an empty room.

Essentially you're locked out of going to new rooms, but unable to keep using rooms you're already in until reloading chat.

Oh I see, then don't create rooms with a / in them, and don't go into rooms with a / in them...
While it would be lovely to have it fixed, the chances of that happening are slim to say the least unfortunately.

Thanks for the report though, we can add it to the list.

It will need to be fixed, though.
Most people aren't going to know it's bad to create or enter rooms with a forward slash in the room name.
The two rooms I saw on the list that triggered the problem were just using the forward slash like any normal person would typing a sentence.
In other words, weren't doing it to cause a problem, simple accidents.

Not a common room naming feature, but still basic enough to need a fix, even if it's as simple as censoring the forward slash.
Just saying... I didn't even make the rooms myself, so clearly others will try it not knowing.

It's not just the slash that does this, some other non alphanumeric characters will hang the chat session. The software underneath Lit chat hasn't been updated since 2017, so I wouldn't hold your breath for a fix.

I suspect your definition of "need to be fixed" is different from those who are in a position to be able to fix it. And indeed, if things were to be fixed, I can list 3 things off the top of my head that would far more important quality of life fixes than broken room names. (Disabling join/part messages by default, fixing the ignore feature so it works for everyone and is persistent across sessions, and improving the mobile experience so at the very least it handles the forced disconnects more gracefully). I suspect it has been like this for years, and most people just ignore it. In about 6 years of modding, this is the first time I've come across this issue - the other issues I mention crop up almost daily.

As a software engineer with more years exprience than I care to count, I get it, it would be great to have it fixed. Alas, as drusus adroitly put it, don't hold your breath.

(and no, we don't have access to fix it ourselves).

You want this fixed and I want to hug a unicorn...we have about equal chances of that happening. So...do as cranky and drusus said and don't create or go into the rooms.

I've literally never seen rooms created with non-alphanumeric characters in Lit in my 20 years of experience. I am pretty sure most people are too preoccupied to type out "Either/Or" or whatever for a room name. We're lucky if the room maker spells the thing properly.

Couldn't it just be on a list of FAQ for the chat, or good practice things? Thanks for all the modly things you mods do.

Oooh, ooh! That's hot. A Kierkegaard-themed chat?
