Positive Affirmations

"Things could be worse."

That is how I look at life's curve balls.

I'm often considered an optimistic person. In reality I think I'm just pragmatic.
I do not expect life to be fair, the sun to shy and things to go smoothly. I also try not to sweat the small stuff.
But at the same time I believe in the power of negative thinking, so I try to keep a positive attitude. :)

Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.
~Bill Cosby

Not in my dad's case. Laughter could kill him. His sternum is held together by the thinnest of connections, and good intentions. Laughter can crack it in half again.

So, no, laughter is not always the best medicine.

"God gives burdens, also shoulders." -Jewish Proverb

The Jews are good at proverbs dealing with continued adversity. Yay for a history of continued adversity, eh? :p

That's because any culture that survives that length of time spends a lot of time in suffering. Look at the Armenians or the Chinese.

You don't see it in shorter-lived cultures as much because most cultures folded up and got assimilated after a few major defeats, or drastically warped.

Well, aren't we contrary.

Two quotes from Old Blue Eyes that I think fit...

"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day." -Frank Sinatra

"I'm not one of those complicated, mixed-up cats. I'm not looking for the secret to life... I just go on from day to day, taking what comes. " -Frank Sinatra

For my own part, I can look back at plenty of bleak periods in my life, times when I was in holes so deep and dark that I couldn't see any way out. I'm always struck at how much I laughed and joked in those circumstances...

One evening, during my mother's final crawl to life's finish line, my dad, my sister and I sat on her bed in the palliative care ward and swapped stories about our lives with her. Mom was almost comatose, so she wasn't participating, but she was, if you know what I mean. We laughed so hard and so long, the nurse had to come shut the door and ask us to be quiet.

That time of my life was the bleakest I've ever had. Sorrows and hardships were stacked so high they threatened to topple and crush me every day. But I laughed. If there's a glint of joy in a pile of dung, I'll find it.

Life is beautiful even when it's not.

A text I've had hanging in my bathroom since forever, for contemplation while on the throne. No matter what is occurring in my life, some part of it always speaks to me.
I've had my share of bad things enter my life of late. And, because we spend a certain part of our lives on the toilet...contemplating our lives...I thought that would be a good spot for a message of inspiration. I've been thinking of what it should say, and I think I've finally decided on just the right inspirational verbage.

"No matter how much crap
life is giving you, at least
you're getting rid of some
while you sit here.
So, when you get up
and carry on with your day,
you should feel relieved
that your burden in life
is at least a little bit lighter."

You should go to MakeStickers.com and get some stickers made up so that you could put one in every stall you ever visit. :D

Life is a joy filled with delightful surprises.

My life is a joy filled with love, fun and friendship all I need do is stop all criticism, forgive, relax and be open.

I choose love, joy and freedom, open my heart and allow wonderful things to flow into my life.

Here's what I want to know. Does the desire to stop all criticism, forgive, relax and be open extend to Democrats?

God knows, the grass roots on both sides could use a hearty dose of that.

Some days I get a 'what if they had a war and nobody came?' notion about American political polarity. Just let the fuckers in party management on both sides rot.

Never mind me, I'll resume being properly cynical shortly.
