I understand that SJ is not necessarily looking for lesbian porn, but reading the posts I am reminded of the distinction that lesbian porn connoisseurs make between "mainstream" porn and material that meets certain higher standards. Idiot camera operators (or directors) who can't resist the urge to "join in." (more leeway granted if they're female, of course.)
Idiot camera operators (or directors) who give verbal directions, talk to the women, blurt out how hot the action is, etc.(again, more leeway granted if they're female.)
Obviously fake orgasms.
Women who aren't really into what they're doing.
Dubbed in dialogue, moans, etc.


Anyone who has watched any amount of mainstream porn, hetero or homo, will recognize many of these "don't like" items. The purpose of this post it to say, it doesn't have to be that way, and you are correct to find most of it seamy and unappetizing.

Not many males posting here, and that's fine I guess, but Roxanne Appleby's post works for me, if I translate the specifics to hetero and/or BDSM play where the conventions outweigh (and smother) any glimmer of imagination or real communication between "actors" nearly always.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but porn movies don't do anything for me. Occasionally I'll see one that has some really hot scene or beautiful actress, but mostly it's just bad acting and people faking, which takes the fun out of it for me. The site I found that I really enjoyed was partyhardcore.com. It's a German site where they have women only parties with free alcohol. The best M-F scene I ever saw, I think it's the only one I ever really liked, is a totally soft-core one in "The Seduction of Misty Mundae." For the entire scene the camera is focused on Misty's face; all you see is his back. Okay, I gotta weigh in here about likes and dislikes and some recommendations, too.

It's hard for me to find contemporary porn that I enjoy. Why? Because the women tend to look genetically engineered, congenitally thin, and are invariably shaven. (The men are mostly either generically replaceable cocks-with-a-well-muscled-guy-attached or are much older and look like lechers with money... which they may be for all I know.) I'm all for muscular women, certainly, but not ones that look like you could bounce quarters off their behinds.

Classic movies from the 70s & 80s are another matter. People had physiques just like a lot of other people. Annie Sprinkle, Marilyn Chambers, Desiree Cousteau, Nina Hartley, Lisa DeLeeuw, Taija Rae, Kay Parker, Aunt Peg, and Trinity Loren all looked like real people. What's more, they had personalities and were decidedly not interchangeable units. Much the same is true of lots of the actors of the time.

I'd suggest trying some of the following for a taste of the classic:
* "Candystripers"--one of my all-time faves, with some damn good threesomes and seriously hot sex
* Almost anything starring Candida Royale (who's now directing and producing couples videos), Trinity Loren (particularly compilations), or Kay Parker (who did a whole lot of other things besides the classic "Taboo")

In general, I look for the actresses/actors I like and go from there. I can't stand John Holmes, for example, and his presence on screen is a complete buzzkill for me. Ginger, Porsche, and Amber Lynn all leave me cold. OTOH, Hyapatia Lee or Cara Lott tend to be seriously hot stuff and I'll always give them a second look.
