I am looking for a serious book about the history of porn and/or erotic literature but cannot find anything that is uptodate. Does anyone have a hint?

This being of interest to me, and looking it up on Amazon, the book you quote contains the best historical erotic short stories. Not so much a history, Og.How about:
The Mammoth Book of Historical Erotica by Maxim Jakubowski published by Robinson Publishing in 1999 ISBN 1854875353
If you go to abebooks (com) or (co.uk) and search for title "erotica history" you should find a copy (or 10).

One thing I can tell you off the top of my head is that pornography is a relatively new word. It was first used as far as I know, in 1789, by Nicholas Edme Retif and in his book Le Pornographe. Pornography, as a word, didn't really reach popular culture until after the discovery of Pompeian ruins in the Victorian era.
Check this doco (I think by BBC):
Pornography: The Secret History of Civilisation (1999)
and this book:
The Secret Museum: Pornography in Modern Culture, by Walter Kendrick
Much luck.![]()
