Sexy time periods in history

Pregnancy and all manner of other health issues were serious occupational hazards for female sex workers. It was common practice for women to 'wash' right after sex to minimise both trouble-aspects.
I think they still do that--at least the ones who can.

When it comes to writing, I think periods of repression are sexy. One of my stories is set in the Edo period in Japan for that reason.

The early 19th century in France seems like a sexy time...based on films of the era.
In "Dangerous Liaisons", Glen Close hints they knew effective contraception methods, so a woman could have multiple lovers.

And again, based on films, some of the women's clothing in the Jane Austen period are attractive. Also, you get the young women of a certain class, who were expected to be virgins, and undoubtedly horny.
Men on the other had, had no such stigma or expectation, so one wonders where some upper class nice guy...like Mr. Darcy... got his experience.

All of these are much sexier than the '60s where everyone did it alk the time without a second thought.

Dangerous Liaisons is 18th century. BIG difference. The novel was published in 1782 and set somewhere around that time. By the beginning of the 19th century, French society had changed rather drastically; there weren't a lot of Marquises and Vicomtes kicking around.

Further, while women at the time did have methods for contraception, the Marquise's advice to Cécile is malicious. She is trying to ruin Cécile, as publicly as possible, and an unwanted pregnancy would suit the Marquise very well. Indeed, that's exactly what happens later on.
