What's your preference?
Po-Pomo may turn out to be just a variety of Mo. Is it all just the SAME THING, or does it not matter anyway?

A lot of it is just a load of crap. What was it the Turner prize judge guy said recently, 'mechanical,' impersonal?

About five years ago I was at a friends gallery and one of the four artists there had a scupture called Waxed Assholes and Glazed Eyeballs. And that's exactly what it was. Made me snort organic chardonnay right up my nose, it did.

But, you know, there's some good stuff out there too. Probably.
 
Yeah, it's funny. I just read an interesting article. It basically talked about how as ironic as Pomo/Post-pomo wants to get, Mo was just as ironic (despite earlier Pomo evaluations of it) AND actually felt it had something at stake (unlike Pomo). So, Mo just stands there ironically, kind of mocking Pomo - in all its obsessiveness (Finnegan's Wake) and its revolution (Communism). So what does Post-pomo leave us with? Nothing? Godless? Or, everything?

okay, i've got all ten fingers now...

the problem with a lot of what was passed off as PoMo was that it was so superficial, so thin. it never really got (at least in the larger marketplace) to the level of modernism. where modernism was all about the culmination of renaissance thought and "development" as an expression for the industrial age, Post-modern design never really got to the heart of what a post-industrial society could be. so michael graves used color in portland and a stylized keystone, and all of a sudden, the landscape was covered in vaguely historical references done in styrofoam and acrylic stucco.
 
I kind of agree. For all the criticism of Mo, Pomo abandoned any search for something new (which Mo sought) - just dropped it - assumed there was no potential for progress (which Mo did). And what we're left with are individuals, who (re)present (neverending) scripts for themselves - each floating outward and inward in an endless sea - and historicized, styrofoam business offices.
 
Its all mostly about boredom and a subconscious yearning to be a hunter/gatherer.
