So I was talking to a lister who is not American, and he said the impression he has of the Republicans from an outside perspective is rather negative. Then I saw Vette and Merc arguing about how respected Obama is abroad, so I got curious and thought Id make a poll.

But the spend just for one US Presidential election is large enough to wipe out most of Greece's debt.

In the UK, in theory, we gave up buying votes in the early 19th Century. The US system still seems to believe that votes can be bought by massive campaigns for and against candidates, and by promises of pork-barrel funding for individual states.

In response to your poll, I would like an option that says "I'm an American, and they both suck." I love my country, but I am a libertarian, and neither of the major political parties is interested in preserving my freedoms.

I agree both parties have their extremes and I think it will be interesting to see how obstructionist the Dems become the next time there's a Republican president.

That being said, I was honestly a little surprised by what a negative view my non American friend had of the GOP, even more so than I, and he seemed to suggest that its almost a common place view where he lives.

Well, you must remember that the rest of the world (except for a few pseudo-fascist and Islamic states) is very leftist by our standards. What we would consider far-left here in America is considered centrist or even right-wing in most of Europe.
