Does anyone (besides me) ever actually read them, or are they just taking up space I could use for cryptic quotes from Voltaire?

(the singer, not the author. PLease, do I look that intelligent?)

If I like the person, yeah. A link makes it a lot easier to find the story.

And I always vote and comment if I go through a link. I appreciate when my fellow AHers RVC my stuff. Only seems fair I reciprocate.

Considering that I've read Abyss about six times... lol. I'm just not sure I've ever been coherent enough after to comment, and you can only vote once.

What Rob said. :D

I read' em when there's a link to a specific new story (or poem) by an author that I'm interrested in.

Embarrasingly, I don't comment half as much as I should though. But I vote.

I can honestly say I use the sigs a lot. I ammore apt to look up a post by someone I want to read a stroy from than to do an author search. It's quicker, more convient and less hassle on me.

So if I am in the mood for a Shang story, I'll go find a post. Same for cloudy, or rob or abs or whatever Aher writes the kind of stories I am in the mood for.

I use the links often, and I vote, though I don't leave comments these days, for the most part. I like the links, especially when I notice someone has a new story.

Sig line links are extremely helpful to me, and I click on them frequently - if I am intrigued by the obvious intelligence or charisma or attitude of an author on these threads.

Therefore, I voted: "Maybe, if I like the person. And I leave votes and comments."

However, I am compelled to point out that the fact that I have not voted and left comments on a particular author's story does not necessarily mean I consider him/her to be unintelligent or dull!

Time is an issue with me, and I have a fairly long list of authors whose sig links I plan to click on....... one of these days. :)

In addition, I am the type of reader who is only going to vote & comment if I finish a story - and I am only going to read to the end if I am aroused by the tale. This greatly limits the number of stories on which I vote & comment.

I backclick on many well-written stories because they contain themes that just don't interest me (from a personal sexual preference point of view): homosexuality, bisexuality, multiple partners, cheating partners, incest, intense humiliation or pain, a female protagonist who is young and naive, a middle-aged male protagonist lusting after a much younger woman.......

As you can see, I backclick a lot! However, if I do finish a story, I always vote and write private feedback to the author.

I also backclick quite a bit... not for content reasons, but for really bad editing. Or atrocious writing, lol. I know I have my fair share of issues with my own work, but I make an effort, nine times out of ten, to catch my spelling, grammar, typos, etc.

Oh god, yes. I do the same thing.

It is extremely difficult for me to lose myself in a story when I keep thinking something along the lines of: "It's their, not there, you cretin!"

However, most of the AH regulars seem to have a command of the English language that is at least as competent as my own. :) That's why I didn't mention backclicking for grammar or atrocious writing in my post on this particular thread.

The sig links are a much handier way to get to stories when someone intrigues me or asks me.

I may not always comment, since I don't like to leave negative comments, and I may not always vote, because I don't like to give low votes -- honestly, unless a person specifically asks me to critique something and wants to hear all my nitpicky and persnickity opinions, I think I do more harm than good. I'd rather give such feedback privately, and not interfere with the voting.

NITPICK ME!!!

Because I love your Av. :D

So, if I post more, I will get more reads, votes???

This actually may be my 300th post. Over 30-months, not many. Some must average 300 per day. More to say than I.

Last Saturday, my collective stories passed the 3,000,000 reads. If you do poor math, that's about 138 story reads per hour 24/7 for the past 30-months. No, I am not anal retentive! Just like statistics.

So they are not all coming from my sig line.

But if you would like, take a peek!

I don't read as much as used to or as much as I would like to....but when I do I usually go there from a sig-link and I always vote. I usually comment...but not always.

There have been a few cases where I have clicked the link. And if I like the author enough to start a story, I don't generally stop because of the genre. I try to find something that I DID like and comment on that, as well as voting for it. Of course, the number of things that I don't like are fewer than others mention, but that's because I'm not exactly vanillla. I just don't click all of the time, since unknown authors deserve to be given a fair shake too.

There is one other choice you didn't put up- if someone's posts seem intriguing enough, and make me think i'll find interesting reading from them, I'll click.
They might be someone I don't like that much. And there are people here that I like very much, but I know their authorial taste won't grab me. Even so, I will click on a profile link if there is one, and maybe browse for a moment.... 'cause I'm forever curious!
I vote if I can leave a 5 or 4 at the least, if I think the author might be interested in improving his or her writing, I might send private feedback with my comments.
If it's obvious that the writing sucks and is going to suck forever- I'll vote my opinion.

I have only voted based on content once- and no, it wasn't about lube! ;)

DITTO to that Stella, pretty much word for word, until I reach the 'lube' :)

I will. I don't get to as often as I'd like, but I'm much more likely to qeue one up that's advertised in a sig-line than one I have to hunt for.

That said, I find the author's entire body of work listed and linked to be a bit tedious. Just personal 'druthers, though.

Same here. I just look for the legs. :)

Harley, do you mean a link to the list of stories is tedious, or a sig with all stories individually linked?

I can't say exactly why I'm turned off by every individual story being separately linked to from the signature space, but I am. Perhaps some feel it's much better exposure, but I find myself rubbed wrong by it. I'll have to examine my feelings on it at some point, but I'm real funny about how I choose things to read and what those things are.

To be clear, I'm fairly turned off by large amounts of information/distraction in sig lines anyhow. It could be photos or banners or excessive quotations, but I find it largely distracting because my main purpose for participating in forums is to converse/communicate. I feel that one single link to an author's main page is sufficient. If I'm interested in their work, based on any number of factors, that's all I need in order to access their words.

Okay, I've cleaned up my sig a bit ;)

I usually add anything new into my sig- but there hasn't been anything new for a while.

Then I guess it's time you got your smutty mind in gear, hmmm? ;)
