As we all gathered ourselves together, after the intense interlude we had all enjoyed, and dressed, it seemed strange to me that less than a month before, we had all been strangers.

Now I felt closer to these people than to some of my own family!

We all had our tasks to attend to, in preparation for our first (public) meeting as a whole team in a week's time at Brands Hatch, for the unveiling of 'Formula Woman' by the Chairman, Ken McBride.

As Kendra's arrival on the team had piqued a lot of interest amongst the press and the rumoured involvement of John with our engine building, we were going to be getting our share of the attention.

I had to make arrangements for all our race kit to be transported down there, as there was going to be an exhibition race, to determine the qualifying places for the first race in Bahrein.

Everyone had passed their medicals with flying colours that day but tomorrow I felt I needed to find a new place to stay a permanent place to call home.

I had seen a place for sale in a village called Forest Hill , a converted farm building , it certainly looked a nice place. I had called everyone together in the Team Garage, as it was the biggest room and we could all sit there.

"Guys - just to bring you all up to speed - next week is the showcase day for Formula Woman at Brands Hatch. Does anyone need any other bits of kit for it?"

We all sat in the seating area of the shop, waiting for Mark to start the meeting. We were all still a little flushed from our medical exams. Things with this team could work out pretty well if we ever get our minds off the sex and get a car on the track.

I heard my cell phone ringing. Answering and smiling when I heard my father's voice. There was something about it though, it didn't seem right. I sat down in a chair as the rest of the team continued on with the meeting. My mind listening intently to what he was telling me.

The fact was he had a small heart attack. That was one thing I couldn't grasp. I could feel myself sinking into the chair as I whispered to him, "You okay?'

He was going to be the doctors had said. Only problem was he couldn't continue leading his new team. They had just started up, something to keep
him busy since he's no longer racing. He needed her, he needed me to come home and help.

It had always been his dream to have a competing team. There was no way I could let that dream go. I would have to leave team Freya. It wasn't something I wanted, but my father was most important. I was sure everyone would understand.

"I'll be home dad. Who do you have for the team?"

He mentioned John's son. Maybe I could get John in on this new team. I didn't want to take anything away from this team but I couldn't stop my fathers dream from happening. I'd have to talk with John before announcing it. I motioned for him and wrote on my note pad what happened quickly.

My father had a heart attack, I'm going home. Your son is working for him. Would come with me and help?

I waited for sign to see if he would join me. He shook his head and I told my dad I'd be home soon. That I would handle everything. He told me he loved me and I felt a tear fall.

"Mark I need to leave the team I'm afraid," I interrupted. "My fathers gotten ill and can't handle running his own team. He's asked me to come home and take over for him. I told him I would. I'm sorry, I hope you understand...."

I heard Kendra's phone ring as she sat and could see the expression on her face suddenly change as her voice softened. When she started writing on her pad then nudged me, I looked at what she wrote and nodded as my heart went out to her.

I knew this was a dream of hers, but I also knew she wanted to be there for her father. I nodded as I wrote a simple reply on her pad.... Anything you need sweetheart and put my hand on her knee to show my support for her.

When she told Mark that she needed to leave the team, I loked at her with a small grin. Turning to Mark "She needs my help Mark. I'm sorry to tell you, but I'll be leaving also. Plus it also presents a great oportunity for me..... my son is one of the drivers for that team."

I hated leaving Team Freya hanging like this so close to the beginning of their season after all the money Mark had put into the team, but I knew my heart wouldn't be in it if I stayed and that would be worse for the team.

Mark could not completely conceal his disappointment at this news, as he addressed them both:

"This had come as a shock, just as we were about to embark upon the season."

"Guys, you know I'll be sorry to lose you both, as I feel you have become good friends and I was hoping that together we could take Formula Woman by storm, but I understand why you both need to do this."

Mark looks at Kendra and says:
"There is nothing more important than family, and I hope, Kendra, that your Dad recovers fully."

After a brief pause, Mark turns to John:
"John, I hope you and your son enjoy every success, with your team."

Mark walks over to them both and shakes their hands, giving Kendra a light peck on the cheek, as well.

"Thank You both, for all you've done, and your friendship."

I couldn't help but feel disappointed at the news. I had hoped John and I could develop our relationship further but I fully understood the immensity of the opportunity to work with his son. "Oh, no, that is such a shame! If I can help in any way, I will. Just let me know," I said and then Mark interrupted, saying that he would call me back to let me know if I would get the job with Team Freya. I thanked him and I then hang up.

I thought to myself, "I really hope that I would get the job....such a shame about John and Kendra leaving....." and then I smiled at the experience I had with John. I sure would miss him very much so.

I considered Sharon's 'phone call carefully.

This was a crucial time for the team.

Although it hurt to lose two instrumental people to the team, I really wanted to carry on.

It would have been so cruel to fall at the first hurdle, just as we looked so ready to go!

I dialled Sharon's number and waited as it rang.

Mark agreed to meet me tomorrow and after some discussion, I hang up and went up to my room at the Stables, deciding to look on the Internet to find some accommodation.
