writers, artists, musicians. Ever write them? I do, a lot. Post ones you have here or write one. Who inspires you? Why? How?

Fernando Pessoa

Forgive me
not seeing your thin countenance.
You slip easily past notice, waving
like a forgotten reed while I
gather my own flowers,
turn down petaless lids,
and stride past, your voice barely
rustling like a dry stalk
in a lost meadow.

You harbinger waving across years
are remote, standing on one faded leg,
stork like in a dusty coat blown wing back,
your hat dips off center, careless,
a shrug of failed respectability,

but altogether clownish, insubstantial,
you puzzle, you whimsy of imprecision,
you dark-eyed, mustachioed little tramp,
sidling into your own imagination

Now I am Janus,
looking necessarily ahead.
and unable to turn away,
my eyes dream east over oceans,
past time, yearning to know
your solitary heart, to hold
you in my world.

Ah Lauren...

that poem and image convinced me I had to know about Pessoa... As you know, I picked up three of his books on Ebay shortly after reading your poem...

I have a sonnet about Vachel Lindsay posted here:

For the Jazz lovers

Jan Johanson (1931-1968)

frosted touch dancing drowsy
leaves a fingerprint web behind

where falloff lingers eternally echoing
marble to marbe and mind to mind

ivory glimmers of polished dreams
but the hammers speak of root and dirt

a solemn trickle from frosty fingers
brought from basics, all ages' hurt

About Jan Johanson:

I only know that he was a Jazz pianist from Denmark or Sweden. Does anyone know more about him and his music? I love what I've heard so far, but I can't find any info.

He was a Swede.

Here's some info

I don't know very much about him, but his jazz/folk hybrid music is something I grew up listening to. Truly mezmerising stuff.
