Pledge of Allegiance banned.. is this The Onion?

I wish these fake news sites would occasionally come up with something funny.

There are a growing number of these fake news sites floating around. I get so many of them on my facebook feed now that my first course of action is now to google the website to see if it's reputable or a known fake site.

When I was in grade school in the 90s we stopped saying the pledge of allegiance since it had the word God in it, and the school system didn't wish to force it on anyone that didn't believe in God. Same school system that banned military recruiters and the boy scouts.

It would have been closed long ago, if he were the power-mad dictator the GOP portrays him as.

Exactly the opposite is true. He thought he could do it solely on his own authority. He apparently didn't realize he needed the cooperation of other governments or his own Congress to relocate prisoners even he did not want to see set free.

It was a dunderheaded misinformed campaign promise that a lot of people should have been able to keep him from making and ultimately embarrassing himself.

Sure, he has to get around Congress and the Pentagon, but if Guantanamo happens to close on or before January 19, Obama will rightly get the full credit for it.

I will buy that if you will buy if Gitmo does not close Obama get's full credit. He promised it be closed in his first 100 days. Eight years later he still hasn't figured out a way to close it?

Did he try to build a coalition of opinion. Spend his political capital to get it done?

Edited to add

I don't think you live in the US so I will explain somethings. Candidates will say anything to get elected to office. I honestly believe Obama meant it when he said it.
However when he got into office he realized how politically costly the effort would be he just decided to give it lip service.

Pretty much. Though he did the song and dance routine a little more than was strictly necessary. At least twice Republicans have outright shut him down on it. He could have treated it like immigration reform where I think even most of his supporters knew that was never happening.

The republicans did try and stop him. When that happened Obama just threw up his hands. What am I supposed to do? I have no power.

Obama issued an Executive Order in his first week in office, with the intention to close Guantanamo within a year. It doesn't take political capital to do the job, it takes Congresspeople who aren't insubordinate.

It's Congress' job to do whatever the President wants them to?
