Hi, I'm really confused right now and wonder if someone can help. The background: a few years ago I posted a story:

The story in question

It's pretty mediocre, short, not a lot to say about it, until today, when anonymous said:

"Same old racist black thug trash."

I am super not sure if (or how) this person perceived racism in this story, or if I am just thinking about way too much about someone effing with me for LOLs. Will someone with nothing to do please read my story and let me know if I inadvertently made a story about myself having a (fictional) tryst with a guy at work 'racist black thug trash'? I don't even understand what that means in the context of the story, and would love to know if I did include something that could be interpreted that way, just WTF it is. Thanks in advance.

I took a read through your story. I didn't see anything racist, so I'd just write the commet off to "crazy people on the internet".

The poster is a moron. At no point is the race or color of either person identified. The only indication of race is Arabic-accented, as far as I can tell. I sped-read it, so I could be wrong. Nothing about husbands or wives or SOs. He's creating his own interpretation.

After all this time, suggest you just delete the comment, forget it, and move on.
Can you delete comments??? I get so few I'd never want to... but How do you do it?

Keep in mind that a substantial portion of the American public is mentally ill. Is it worse than other countries? I suspect so, although it's difficult to prove. So, naturally many of them wind up reading and commenting here.

@AG31 As the author, you can do it. When you are logged into your author account, go to the comments of the story and click the trashcan on the right.

Thank you all for your responses! I have never deleted a comment, even the dumb/mean ones, I think they're kind of funny, but I was just... baffled. You've eased my mind (I don't want to be an unintentional racist [or the regular kind]), so I'm just going to let it stand as another example of crazy on the internet.

I've had several stories where the characters are both white, and I still get the "Racist trash" comments. I don't get it. They just think because I'm black one of the characters is black, I guess.

Didn't really want to 'like' how douchey people are on the internet, but I sympathize.

I don't usually offer a lot of physical description, I guess I prefer to leave a lot up to the imagination, including that one, leading to my extreme confusion. I still can't even wrap my head around who it was racist toward? How? Whaaaaaat? Okay, gonna stop caring in 3...2... 1

That feels better. thanks again.

It's obvious to me based on some of the comments I've gotten that there are a few readers on Literotica who seem to read what they want to read in a story rather than what has actually been written. There's no way to change them. You'll just have to do the same thing I do when I see a comment like that. I mutter, "How the hell did they get that out of the words I wrote?, and then smile at the good comments. The good ones are like the sucker you got when you went to the dentist or the doctor as a kid.

You've been here long enough to know there's some absolutely retarded ass readers here.

Strangely, I cannot find the "delete comment" icon this evening. Just this to the right:

From the pic you posted, it looks as if you're trying to delete the comment from the story page.

Instead, you need to be in your control panel. Go the list of your stories and click on the little blue-and-white speech balloons next to the story title. That will pull up a list of all the comments on that story, with a little rubbish bin icon by each.

And...that was it. Thanks.

I can see the trashcans now.

I don't really have a comment I wanted to delete. I meant to be helpful to someone else and was going to walk them through the process, only to find that it wasn't working for me.

I haven't looked at any of this for a long time. And I'm occasionally challenged with even basic online stuffs.

I have refrained from deleting comments of late, but most haven't been nasty, so maybe it wasn't all that hard to refrain from deleting them.

The way I would look at this is the story is closing in on being two years old, and if you hadn't gotten comments like this right out of the gate, and this is an exception to the general reaction, then this is just a troll. You can delete it as Keith suggested, or leave it there and not think about it because there is nothing constructive here, just stupidity.

There's a fine line though. I don't mind negative comments. To a certain point, the let me know the reader was vested in what I wrote, cared about my characters, and was pissed at something I did. that's valid feedback.

Only comments I have ever deleted were either personal attacks(1), and a couple of guys that got into a political debate over my use of the term socialist in one of my stories. Come one, go fight it out, but in the comments on a story. LOL
