Alright... advice time I again.

After my Gay Male challenge last month, I plan to challenge myself once more by making a foray into the shark tank better known as LW.

I have read a cursory few things there just to get a feel of what I was up against. Certain kinds of stories are not as well received as others, to put it mildly.

But here is what I don't get...

Infidelity with no consequences gets incinerated... obviously.

BUT...

Even infidelity with consequences (even very bad consequences) also gets the hair dryer treatment. There are some self-appointed shrinks who summarily say that "you need help" or "he should have learnt to live with it" etc.

So, basically you can't win???

Does someone know the magic formula to make an LW story? I am willing to rake either party over something infinitely more devious than that category has ever seen. But I need your advice as to who should be the raker and who should be the rakee.

I have five LW stories. Only one got worked over a lot in comments, and most of those were good comments. Got a green E on one some time ago, which got its first comment today--months and months later--which was only midly sour and very short (and was in the form of a question I could answer "yes" to).

In mine, I sometimes have the wife go to the brink while under understandable stress and pull herself back (the one with lots of comments--for me--36, and is still hot--and came close to winning in a Christmas contest a few years back, before my habitual trolls arrived) or I have the wife doing it with permission for a plausible reason--even encourage to do it (for a plausible reason), e.g., the husband isn't physically capable of it but doesn't want to deprive the wife, wants them to be comfortable together with no tensions, or he's dying, isn't capable of it, and is obsessed with having a legal child to inherit for extenuating circumstances. I try to think of what circumstances would make a wife have sex outside of marriage for reasonable reasons. So far it has mainly confused those who like to chomp on any and all LW stories.

The one thing I don't do is try for "in your face" in LW. I think that would be stooping to the level of readers/commenters who use the category as a pin cushion--and would deserve the slams for having intentionally invited them.

I wrote almost exclusively LW stories...

And a good percentage had scores over 4.5...still, I got a good deal of bad comments, especially for stories where the couple reconciled in the end.

Like any other category though, if you write a good story people will still recognize it as such. The last story I wrote for Lit was called, "The Last Chimes of Fall." After the first 62 votes I had a perfect 5*; after 117 votes it was still at 4.97. Ironically, it was also the story that led to me to pulling my work form here.

My advice is this; take your time and write a well thought out, believable and comprehensive story; you will be rewarded.

One of mine is 4.37 363 votes 61825 views Public Comments: 31 ( 28 positive to 3 negative )

It's a bait-n-switch where it looks like the woman is cheating, but in the end, I reveal that it's actually her husband in a halloween costume. She knew it was him as soon as he was close enough, and played along because it got her hot and bothered. He was fulfilling a fantasy for her because he was a dick before she left on her business trip and felt guilty.

The other is 4.51 422 votes 102097 views Public Comments: 39 ( 24 positive, 9 negative, 6 confusing )

I counted comments where the writing wasn't mentioned but the commenter hated on one character or another as "negative". Where positive marks were given for the writing, but hate was heaped on one character or the other, it fell mostly in the "negative" column unless it ended with something along the lines of "good story"

Comments were overwhelmingly positive until 8 months after release, when the negative commentary and WTF comments started coming in ( over half of the total )

This one is a true cheating wife story. Her husband is a weak character I purposely played as a potential cuckold to rile people up. The goal was to either get them to keep reading, or to leave a stupid comment that anyone who read the whole story would laugh at them for making.

She decides that he's cheating on her and goes for the revenge cheat in the heat of the moment when a ready cock at work is there at her weakest moment. She has ups and downs of doubt and guilt as things are revealed in the story, but manages to overcome them with selfishness and distrust to keep banging her donkey-donged lover.

In the end, she gets caught and finds out that he never cheated on her. She ends up losing her job and pretty much everything. The final scene is her seeing her ex with his pregnant new wife and slinking off to mope over her foolishness.

A few people caught on that his new "loving wife" is a slut who was trying to hit on him long before his marriage went downhill and does so in the story. The odds are that's he's on a fast road to disaster in the future, and there will unfortunately be a child involved this time. He only seems better off to her because she's so low and knows she fucked up hard, but he's going to pay for his own mistakes in the marriage as well.

Most were either torn between cheering for "burning the bitch" or decrying the husband for not communicating and couldn't see that they were both equally at fault right until she upped the ante by fucking around on a wrong assumption.

That's my personal experience in the category.

Why is your motive for writing the story? Are you looking for validation in terms of high scores and nice comments or do you actually have a good idea that you want to get down in writing, or are you just trying to write a story that the LW trolls will like solely as a writers challenge, or something else entirely?

Anything that is a slight deviation from the accepted storyline cliches will usually attract a few negative comments and one-bombs.. This is true in all categories, not just LW, although it is clearly more pronounced there. As for whether that should bother you, I guess it comes down to whether you want to write a good story or a popular one.

I think LW is a real test of how to ignore comments. My first post was from the Story Ideas thread, Doing It for You. I don't think it was my strongest effort and I was new to the site. To date, that story has received: 47 comments/ 78239 views/ 43 favorites and a score of 4.38. The comment count is a bit inflated, since I posted a few replies to some of the comments. Also, there were a few comments that were so offensive and not related to the story or its writing, I deleted them.

The experience ended up generating a follow-up story that I think is much better than the original, Doing It for You, Ch 02. The follow-up story received 29 comments/ 22055 views/ 6 favorites and a rating of 4.20

I have managed two stories that have rated the coveted red H - The Girl with a Past teeters above and below 4.50, I guess depending on how busy my trolls happen to be. I happen to like the story and think it maybe one of my better efforts - though it hasn't received as much attention as the first story: 31 comments/ 25195 views/ 9 favorites.

Interestingly, my highest scoring LW story includes male bisexuality with a very heavy hubby/wife story line. It's definitely a fluff piece. On the Other Side of the Wall. It's a one page shorty that currently has earned 22 comments/ 62512 views/ 42 favorites and the remarkable score of 4.57.

My advice? Write the damn story you want to write and if it fits the category, screw the naysayers!

Last year I made a list of categories I would write in this year and LW made the list. I left it for last as I didn't really know what to do, because I really have no interest in infidelity and cuckold has never been a fantasy or turn on to me.

But after seeing so many threads about how to appease/survive LW I decided to just go in there and inflame them. The husband cheated first and the wife retaliated big time.

By the comments I can tell a large percentage of the readers there are bitter men who hate women for whatever reasons.

So I wrote a story that rubbed their face in it through the eyes of the husband who was completely and utterly humiliated while being bound and forced to watch. I also added a shock collar because I got tired of readers needling me for starting to get "soft" in my stories.

So in the end I pretty much gave them the finger and something to cry about.

It just today got over a 4.

By far my lowest rated story and full of nasty comments

I loved every one of them.:D

It’s a great category! It gets lots of complaints from AHers but of course they’re famous for having thin skins. A good story will generate lots of readers, votes and comments.

Scoring is lower than other categories but so what? Everything is relative – a 4.50 in LW is equivalent to a 4.96 in NH. You know that going in.

I have 8 stories still up on the site in the LW category. 5 scored over 4.50 and 3 under. 4 have received over a 1000 votes and 3 more have over 900. 6 bestsellers (over 100,000 views) including 2 double best sellers (over 200,000). 5 have received more than 50 comments (including one on the brink of the 100+ comment club). What more could anyone want.

And a scouries 4.50 in reality is a 4.10 once all his sock puppet votes are removed.

OK, how about you just stop ragging on other authors' ratings on this forum. It makes you just as much a jackass as Scouries is.

Ratings can be and are manipulated. You accuse Scouries of manipulating your ratings. I'd say that's another thing you do yourself just so you can rag on others' stories.

Just grow up and stop being such an insecure asshole.

But its okay when you mock him?

Okay when Dark puts up graphs proving he inflates his scores?

Course it is. Got nothing to say then do you?

Only when its me.

But everyone is supposed to believe yours are brought down aren't they? Please even after the sweeps your scores are below average. After the troll you can;t sniff top 20 in a contest.

Your jealousy is sickening, why don;t you stop wasting time worrying about what I say and read some decent GM stories, maybe you'll get some ideas.

I don't rag on ANYONE else's Literotica scores on this forum--including yours, despite your months and months of attacking my writing and stories and books just to make yourself feel adequate. Don't try to change or water down the issue here.

Just stop your disgusting childish behavior. You are way beyond tiresome.

You aren't one iota better than Scouries is on this crap.

That seems to be a contradiction. If a story gets a 4, that means that scored four five-star votes for every one-bomb. So then saying that a large percentage of readers are bitter woman haters is a bit unfair. Maybe just a large percentage of the vocal ones who usually post in comments.

And as an aside, giving anybody grief (or praise) about scores is a bit stupid. Any of us that have decent grammar and syntax skills, and even a vague idea how to make a story flow (which I think is everyone in this discussion, even scouries) could make all of their stories over 4.50 if they wanted to. All they would have to do is make sure all of their stories go down formulaic, well-trodden paths, which the average reader is proven to lap up.

We don't do that because on some level we're all writers with story ideas that we want to share regardless of whether they are 'popular' or not.
