Playground Book Club!

How far ahead can we discuss? I think Max helps them find themselves again. But, I'm only at the beginning of that whole situation.

I don't really know. I'm thinking up into book 3.. but I don't know how far everyone's gotten because I suck at running a book club.

I would agree with that actually though .

Right now I'm working my way through part 7. While I don't think this is a hard read and I do think the book is very good and interesting, I have found difficulty getting into it enough in order for me to finish it quickly and easily. I am a little grateful that this book hasn't been too hard on my heart, as I first expected when realizing we would be reading a book narrated by Death based during wartime in Nazi Germany. I guess the fact that it's from the point of view of a little German girl rather than a little Jewish girl makes a big difference in that and has given me a interesting insight into until the struggles of a German family with good values and how they have to conform or risk persecution. One of the things I'm currently interested in is the relationship forming between Max and Liesel.

Really good observations. At the half way mark and its now sucked me in. Every common person in Europe suffered during WWII. That much is eye opening.

<cough, cough, cough>

It's so dusty in here folks! I know it's October, but can we do something about all of these cobwebs?

yes, work got crazy and the drive back n forth was outrageous.
It has all calmed down now - Starting a new project from scratch, but only have to drive 3 miles vs 65 one way.

Anyone have any final thoughts on The Book Thief? I know we (I) kinda wandered off but it was also a long book so I know some people (ahem, Indie) took longer than expected.
I really enjoyed it and it may make it to my favorites shelf.

Who has a fun, light reading suggestions for our next book? I'd like to start the next one Nov 1st.

I would recommend for good books that read fast and are worth reading... and are funny at least at moments:

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer, Annie Barrows

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson

Little Bee by Chris Cleave

Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple

Big Stone Gap: A Novel by Adriana Trigiani

Girl Waits With Gun by Amy Stewart

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

I am taking the liberty of bumping your book club thread Tink.

I just got the Audible version of Milkman. Now that summer is over I have more time to read. :)

Let’s read Uninvited.
Also Tolyk and are about to start reading Odd Thomas together

(And I loved The Hunger Games)

Uninvited

You added to your post. I noticed.

I have a different conception of God than Uninvited's author, which prevented me accepting what needed acceptance in the first two chapters. I have a LOT of experience with a depressed Christian woman.

I understand rejection, very much.

Good luck with the book club.

*silently curses myself for not taking that speed reading course* I have the book. I started it. :)

I’m fighting with god so this book isn’t working out super great for me.

I’m kinda just doing to do the questions if no one minds I don’t want to offend anyone with my beliefs.

Abandonment is a huge issue for me. Everyone important to me has eventually abandoned me in some, if not all ways.
It makes me needy which compounds the issue in my mind.
I become “too much” and that drives wedges.
I’m working on it. I’m a work in progress

I don’t really worry about losing who I am... I’m pretty sure of who I am and I look inward and analyze everything... myself included.
One of the joys of being an over thinker.
