Ok, what I really want to know is: how much does it hurt to get your nipples pierced? Both with real piercing needles and with other kind of needles, or even with safety bob pins.

It looks like it is going be something potentially in my future and I am terrified of needles to the point that I feel like offering to get a cutting instead ... I know.

Since the point will be my suffering, I expect the piercing to be done very slowly. The thought is enough to make me want to run.

So has anybody had their nipples play-pierced with bobby pins?
How much did it hurt? what kind of care did you do afterwords? how long before they healed completely?

Feel free to expand to any other type of play piercings.

Sterilizations, aftercare, safety issues discussions are also welcome.

:rose:

Safety pins: don't do it; they're not sharp enough.

Use piercing needles or hypodermic needles (which may possibly be the same thing, I dunno). They're sharp and won't cause as much trauma pushing through the skin.

Nipple piercings, the way they're done in a piercing parlor, don't really hurt *that* much. I may be the wrong person to ask because I love nipple pain, though.

I had mine done twice. The first time, my body rejected them, and they migrated to the point that I had to remove them. The second time, the same thing happened. I had a nickel allergy that I didn't realize I had. But even having them pierced the second time, through the scar tissue from the first time, wasn't that bad. I orgasmed on the table, actually....

Anyway, even if you go really slow, I just don't see how the pain could be agonizing. Uncomfortable, maybe, but not agonizing. When mine were done, it felt like one hot jab, and that was it. As soon as they stop moving the needle, it doesn't hurt anymore.

I can't tell you about healing time for permanent piercings, as mine never healed. :( For play piercings, if you don't put jewelry in them, it shouldn't take very long to heal.

Mmm, I love needles. I know you're nervous, but I can almost assure you it won't be as bad as you think it'll be. ;)

You should get appropriate needles. Safety pins, kebab sticks or your elbow are all heaps too big. A good little needle pierces the flesh without tissue damage.

I had mine done firmly and swiftly by a steady hand - it did not hurt. It was plenty of strange sensations (a FUCKLOAD of sensation), and my tiny little bar felt heavy and tingly. The pressure of a cotton shirt was overwhelming and very strange.

Remember to take care!!! Me and the friend i got it done with walked back to the car laughing and holding our shirts to not rub on the nipples... we promptly forgot, wrenched our seatbelts on at the same time and that did hurt a little

I put a safety pin in my nipple once it was already pierced and totally healed. Sterilise with alcohol. I clipped off the sharp point - it is easy to do scratch/scar damage inside the nipple, and not the good type. I dont recommend bobby pins. Pierce with a piercing needle.

How much did it hurt?

Pain? Very little. It is very intense sensation though, but absolutely nothing you cant handle. Try to relax and breathe, against all your instincts?

what kind of care did you do afterwords?
Dont touch the bar or wound with your fingers (if you keep the piercing). Wash the wound every day or two with solution - the less touching you do, the better it will work out imo.

how long before they healed completely?
To heal a piercing, you rotate it daily so you dont heal ONTO the bar. You can change the bar in two weeks (one if it seems safe), and fully healed in 4-6 weeks.

If its just a needle wound and you dont keep piercing in, it will likely close that same day and be on the way to healed in a week.

Aftercare of the wound isnt strenuous. Dont touch it. Aftercare of you - your mileage may vary hah.

Sterilise needles with ultrasound(?) if you can get it. The vibrating chambers that professionals use. I cannot stress the difference in quality between a proper piercing needle and something shitty and blunt like an ear-gun or ordinary needle.

Thank you BiBunny.

I would be less scared if I was going for permanent piercing ... maybe.

It is not easy to get hold of piercing needles or hypodermic needles here, so that is why safety pins were mentioned. I've checked on the body modification site and the main reason why they tell you not to use everyday safety pins is because there is a high chance of your skin sticking to it while healing. But since it will be taken out at the end of the scene, that should not be a problem.

They do sell DIY ear piercing and belly button piercing kits (like mini-guns). Wonder if it can be used for nipples ...

Thank you ImOnIt.
Breathing ... yes, I tend to forget it.

I never liked needles and shots, but could do it. Since starting to explore BDSM and reading about needle play, somehow it seems to me that when I go for blood work it hurts more. I used to get nervous, breath through the pinch and relax. Now I get nervous, breath through the pinch and feel like crying for the whole time the needle is inside of me.

Sterilization will have to be alcohol or something similar. How about sterilizing with a flame? I remember when I was a kid that that was the way my grandma would sterilize needles to use to remove wood splinters.

And what is an ear-gun? you mean the guns to pierce ears?

Funny, I'm the opposite. I'll watch myself get injections, or have blood taken. I've got one permanent piercing.

But, I'm still scared of needleplay for fun!

I'll tack a question on though.... I know the actual piercing will hurt. But do you feel the needle once it's in there? What does that feel like?

Rida, is it possible to buy hypodermic needles from animal-supply stores there? (I have no idea, just a thought.) That's where I get mine, and they're just as sharp as people needles. ;)

Nothing play about it

Rida,

first, stay away from Iphones, they're bad for you.

I'm not sure I remember how much pain was involved the first time I did a "play" piercing of my nipples but, at the time, I think it was a shock. I used a somewhat large sewing-machine needle and the intent was to inflict pain. Procedurally, I thoroughly sterilized both my nipples and the needle with alcohol. I'm sorry to say healing, I removed the needle immediately, took some time and care; the wounds oozed for a few days.

Later, I was intent on inflicting more pain, I pierced both nipples with a heavy-duty leather piercing tool; it contained a variety of different sized hollow punches that literally punched out tissue leaving a large hole into which I inserted various sized rings etc. Healing took much longer, after I removed whatever jewelry was inserted, and I eventually always removed it.

After-effects. I'm male. My nipples are permanently larger than any female porn star's nipples you've ever seen. So much tissue has been removed that my body has filled those gaping holes in with whatever it had at it's disposal leaving them permanently large, bumpy and misshapen. I do occasionally get a double-take at the beach - not a good double-take either.

On occasions when piercing was not desirable, I've also used burning cigars and cigarettes on my nipples. Results are directly proportional to length of burn duration.

I'd certainly never attempt to advise you about piercing but I would advise you not to use the term "play".

Well, if you're going to hack away at yourself with tools not designed for that exact purpose, then it's no wonder you've had bad experiences and are advising against it.

Yikes.

I've seen dozens and dozens of pics and vids of temp play piercing done at local events. Unfortunately, I've never seen it done live, nor undertaken it myself, but watching those experienced players, and reading their accounts, shows me that it can definitely be done safely, and for the ultimate high by all concerned.

I pierced my own nipple with a 16ga sterile needle I bought off the internet. Play piercing needles (typically 20-22ga) can be bought online too. Because I was doing it myself, it went rather slowly - the initial push only got me halfway through, and I paused to catch my breath before finishing. It didn't come out perfectly straight, one side is lower than the other. I would say following through with the jewelry was the really hard part, I had to work hard for it!

Pain factor was fairly minimal BECAUSE of endorphins. Yes, it hurt, but it's not a terrible pain because adrenaline and endorphins blocked it out.

Not sure but probably not easy either.
Thank you thou for the tip on sharpness. I'll keep that in mind.

I meant "play" to specify that the scope of the piercing was the pyl suffering and the PYL enjoyment, as opposed to a piercing with the sole scope to put in jewelery.

The experiences you describe sounds really painful and, I fear, up the alley of what the Sadist would enjoy. As permanent marking is off-limit, I don't need to worry about leather pinching devises used on me, but if finding an hypodermic needle will show to be impossible, the sewing one might be considered.

As for burning with cigars and cigarettes, although still highly scary, in my mind is less scary then needles.

Also, what did you use to take care of the piercings and the burns?

Yes. Nothing permanent or disfiguring for me.
Also, I'm not even a masochist so I'm not interested in a highly painful experience. But alas the Sadist is ... well, a Sadist. So more then my "enjoyment", my suffering will be the scope.

And I hope someone will come along and answer your question:
"I'll tack a question on though.... I know the actual piercing will hurt. But do you feel the needle once it's in there? What does that feel like?"

Thank you Etoile!

I remember you wrote about the experience, so I should go dig the post out.
I was and am still totally impressed that you did it yourself. I'm too much of a wimp and could never do it. I can barely put nipple clamps on by myself!

Question about breathing: is it better to be inhaling or exhaling when the needle goes through?

As for buying the proper needles off the internet, I'm not sure I could get them shipped over here.

You want to EXHALE when the needle goes through.

I just checked BMEshop - you can get play piercing needles in many sizes there, and they DO ship to Japan. :)

Thank you!

Now I do not have any more excuses for not getting those needles ...
Better them than the safety pins.

(Still scared thou ... and not sure I can remember to exhale ... I'll probably end up holding my breath)

It's always better to use something purpose-built. Just because bored teenage boys pierce their nipples with safety pins doesn't mean it's the SMART way to do it. If you get a small enough gauge - they have up to 25ga on that site - you may not even feel a thing. I'd go with 22ga myself if I wanted to do play piercing.

Can you feel the needle while it's in there. Hmm. I have to say no, because of the endorphins. For one thing, you can't close your eyes and say "hey I feel it without looking or touching." Also, the ENTIRE nipple will be in pain, so you can't isolate just the part where the needle is and feel that. If you put jewelry in and let it heal completely, then pinch/press the nipple, you can feel the bar with your fingers, but not "with your nipple." I guess the best way to say it is your nipple isn't used to feeling things, so the nerves there don't know how to process anything. Make any sense?

I had the second nipple done professionally the following day. They coach you on breathing, they'll say "take a deep breath in and...let it out." And on the "let it out" is when they push the needle through. It's not BAD to hold your breath, it won't harm you, but most people are not going for the pain, they're going for the jewelry, so the breathing lessens the pain.

If you have them pierced start with a small gauge and them gauge up over a period of several months. Have a professional pierce them. You don't want them to be crooked. This does happen. As far as hurting, mine hurt like hell at first and each time I gauged up. Enjoy the pain.

You're talking about permanent piercing here. She already said it's just play piercing for now!

I've never had my nipples pierced but I used to pierce friend's ears while I was in college.

I would use a larger bore needle to do the initial push through and then insert a smaller bore needle into the larger one. I then removed the larger one, put the tip of the jewelry inside the smaller bore and as I was removing that needle I pushed the jewelry into the hole. It was great fun for me..LOL

I personally wouldn't feel safe use anything put sealed medical grade sterile needles. But then I work in a hospital where we see all kinds of infections, I tend to be overly cautious.

Do I hear a sadistic strike ... piercing your college friends' ears ... lol
How honestly could not do it. I had to give my mom her shots last winter (in her bum) and it took a while for me to get over the whole having to stab the needle in ... *shudder*. (I made sure to do a quick and firm stabbing).

The description of the whole piercing procedure: bigger needle, smaller needle and earring sounds sooooo painful!

And yes, I'll make sure to get proper needles for it.

(It might be further in the future than I thought as when I mentioned it to Hubby today he pulled a bit of a break on it. We did talk about it before a couple of times, the latest time last week, but he totally forgot about it ... lol)

i would just like to mention, as a professional piercer, most of this information (underlined) is INCORRECT.

do as much research as possible before you embark on this - preferably go and speak to a professional, qualified piercer.

also, it's important to remember that your nipples are glandular tissue, and therefore can infect more easily than normal skin.
unfortunately, being glandular means they take longer to heal as well - in some cases 6 months or more.

speak to a professional, and try to chat online with others who are experienced in piercing play.

I have an entire box of 1" needles in my drawer. Okay, they're really for injections and not play piercing (yet), but I do have quite a bit of experience with needles. I've inject my estragen into my rear once every two weeks for over two years now.

Never use anything but a prepackaged sterile medical needle. Alcohol doesn't touch many of the hardier pathogens, and it doesn't penetrate into every micro groove of the needle. Autoclave, ethylene oxide, and irradiation are the only safe ways to sterilize needles, but few people have the equipment at home. Just buy the needles. They're only $0.25 apiece. If your location forbids the sale at pharmacies, either get them at a farm supply store or online.

Alcohol is enough to sterilize the skin for injections, but permanent piercings might require something stronger like iodine. Ask a professional.

Also, never use a piercing gun, even for the ears. They don't use sharp needles, but rather blunt metal rods. They cause considerable trauma, and will likely scar the delicate nipple tissue.

For those who don't like pain, I've found a neat little trick to make injections painless. Place the tip of the needle against the skin. If you can feel it, move it a tiny bit and try again. Eventually you'll find an area where you can barely feel it, if at all. Then plunge the needle in. This technique positions the needle between nerve endings, and I often feel nothing at all.

Once the needle breaks the skin, I never feel it. The nerve endings are only in the upper layers of the skin, so piercing deeper through the muscle is completely painless.

I dunno about that. Ever had a shoulder arthrogram? That is an experience I'd like to never have to repeat again, even under local anesthetic. *Shudder*

I speak purely from my experience with intramuscular injections. Obviously other procedures might be more painful.

lol Not so much a inner sadist as a fascination with surgical type procedures. I originally planned on being a surgeon or a pathologist :) I like experimenting with cause and effect. (so when are you coming to visit me? LOL )

I admit to almost passing out when I had to re pierce my own ears with a needle. I do better causing pain in others then self-inflicted. But honestly the needle in a needle method is actually less painful. Since the earring post went inside the needle as it was being drawn out the post ends up going exactly where is is suppose to go--out the opposite side. It doesn't get lost in the fleshy insides.

Does the Sadist have any experience doing the procedure himself or do you think he expects you to do it to yourself?

I kind of think you're missing the point. The point is for the PYL to do it to the pyl. I admit I'm interested in a plaything with (permanently) pierced nipples (I'll also admit that the present prospective plaything is highly resistant to the idea). I'm not desperately into causing her pain, at least not for its own sake. But if she gets her nipples pierced they will be pierced by me, and by no-one else - and while I will do my best to get her straight and symmetrical, it's more important (to me) that it's my handiwork than that it's perfect.

And yes, warrior queen, if I do it I will make very sure I know what I am doing.
