I’ll keep this short and sweet. If you’ve posted any stories here or elsewhere you need to go to Amazon and any of the other online book sites and do a title or character search ASAP. There have been several stories plagiarized from SOL writers and posted as “original works” at Amazon. If your creative works have been stolen and posted there by another person please notify the folks there so that they can take corrective action.

As far as I can tell the plagiarized materials have been in the novella or larger lengths and are simply being retitled under another persons name. If you notice such thefts post a comment in order to let others know about it there. Then try to contact the actual author and advise them of what you discovered so that they can file a complaint.

If you secured a copyright, you can file a lawsuit. Just putting the copyright symbol or mailing a copy to yourself is not always enough. If you have several stories, you can group them together under one copyright. I have never posted a story here, but I have 14 or so copyrights registered with the Library of Congress.

You might be successful in suing without a copyright. It's worth a try.

I have had my work stolen before. Really pisses me off. I write from my heart always, and I just can not understand how someone could do that. It is very disrespectful. And I think people should get jail time for this. Some people really have a passion for writing, to have some one take your hard work right from under you....is unforgivable.

You might be successful in suing without a copyright. It's worth a try.

Artistic works are automatically covered by copyright when they are created. Have been since 1978.

If you can prove you made it first, you have a copyright. Registering just gets you a stronger case.

That said, suing is almost certainly not worth it.
