Sorry, ed. Gotta go with Yank on this one. I don't have anything against New York style, but I prefer Chicago style.

BG: o, dear...

[trout-smacks BG]

mazuri: strictly speaking, the last option would work. :>

Good grief I never thought I'd have to use wiki to look up pizza! I've never heard of any of those types before.

wikis: they're not just for serious debates anymore. :>

Oh, ed, this is very serious. What's not serious is the contention that pizza is available in new york and its environs.

yes, b/c those folks in little italy, they don't have a clue about their culinary heritage. sure. whatever you say. :>

You see, the point is that what those folks call pizza has been superseded, replaced, and upgraded by the geniuses in Chicago. It's like the difference between a horse and buggy (surely recognizable to anyone from the old country but not exactly au courant) and a Ferrari GT (a real car!).

Unfortunately, many people mistake "Chicago style" with "deep dish"... They're NOT the same.

You can keep that deep dish crap... Give me a nice thin crust made here in Chicago... Everything else is just ketchup on bread. :p

P.S.- Fish, chicken, pineapple, sprouts, etc. heve NO business being on a pizza. :p

MWY: o good grief, that's just patently absurd, sir. however, as our daily self-deceptions are important to all of us, i shall leave yours intact. :D

i've never been to chicago, tried everything else, but i LOVE 'colorado style' pizza... beau jo's how i miss you so!

Being a Canuck I don't really know what these types of pizza named after various American cities mean. I have never had a good pizza in the States but maybe I'm just missing the right cities - plus I rarely eat pizza. However, my favorite is a thin crust Margharita Pizza cooked in a wood fired oven. So I chose #6.

I'm with Scaly. I like to make my own, but I like all different kinds. When it comes to pizza I'm not discriminatory. (Except pineapple pizza which is evil)

Homemade pizza is my choice. I'm tired of the pizza joints that can't make the pizza exactly the same each time....especially when I'm paying almost $30 for two freaking pizzas. One day the pizza is fine and the next time I'm pissing garlic for 3 days.

So we make our own most of the time now. Dough is made from scratch and left to rise for about an hour. Each of us makes their own pizza...and can stretch the dough out to whatever thickness they want. We do buy a sauce which has a nice flavor and always tastes the same.

We have one of those pizza stones that goes in the oven and cooks it evenly.
I much prefer making our own.

but tonight the logistics for a meal are awkward so we're ordering pizza out.

I also make it homemade from time to time. Waggie, do you use one of those pizza paddles to get the pizza in the oven? I'm always nervous that the pizza's going to end up half on and half off the stone.

B doesn't normally eat pizza (which is odd--how can you not like pizza?), but he will eat it if I make it.

Since my lentil idea went over so well, I'm sure pizza with artichoke hearts and red potatoes with soy cheese will also be a big hit.

Yes....I have a wooden paddle.

we use corn meal on the paddle....if the dough isn't sticky it tends to slide off ok when pushing it with a spatula. need enough flour in the dough so it doesn't stick though.

I also have one of those wooden paddles. I call it the dad whacker. (Originally because I threatened to slug B with it every time he made one of his stupid corny jokes at dinner.)

Not really. I won't wear animal products when I can find an alternative(hockey equipment is tough), I eat as a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and I'll feed our dogs real meat. But this particular pizza is made vegan at a place nearby.

ah. my experiences w/ soy cheese have been less than wonderful but otherwise, i think it sounds great. although i'll confess i'd be interested in seeing red onion added to it.
