Pirate

One of THOSE days....

Clerval knocked. No answer. He knocked again. Nothing. "Hell." he muttered to himself. He looked at the pirate he was dragging down to the hold and sighed, slapping him in the face a little. "hey, wake up, wake up." He said, feigning innocence.
The man awoke.
"Why you little..." he said, ready to strangle Clerval.
"Whoa!" Clerval said, pushing him back. "I didn't hit ya! It was one of the prisoners! They escaped!"
"What?!" The pirate asked, rubbing his head. "Why?"
"Because, they do that sort of thing." Clerval said. "I chased him, back into here."
"You did?! Lemme at 'em! I'll tear out his organs and make his skull into a bowl!" the man bellowed.
"They locked the door." Clerval said.
"Pick it!" The man shouted.
"I tried, it's barred." Clerval said.
"What?!" The man shouted. "I... I'll kick it down! You go get the captain!"
"Righty-o." Clerval said. He always enjoyed the plank walkings, the people who went over always had some nice things to leave behind.

Still in the brig... now what?

OOC:
Rocky, sorry about that.

IC:
"Okay men, we must make secure this hold. Pierre, how many pirate scum do you suspect inhabit this vessel?"

"Major, I would estimate that there were around sixty pirates when we first engaged the ship. We came on Les Épinards which was a large cruiser boasting a complement of 87 crewmen including all of us in the room. If we assume no losses by either side, I would say that this ship now boasts sixty veterans and seventy-five French initiatives. However, I can name at least five of our men who fell overboard during the crossing and another ten that I saw run through with my own eyes. Assuming that the pirates suffered the same losses, that means that the complement is now forty-five pirate veterans and sixty Frenchmen."

"Dammit, Pierre! I'm no mathematician. Speak to me as your commanding officer and not some blasted scientist." The endless prattle was getting to me.

"Okay Major Deverees." The sergent-chef snapped to attention and delivered the report that I was requesting. "Simply put, sir," he eyed me carefully, "there are probably fifty to sixty men up there who have sworn allegience to the captain of this vessel. Further, we lack any weapons and one hostage is probably not going to influence the crew."

"Can we count on any of our former compatriots to mutiny and attack the crew?"

"Sir, an answer to that question would be pure speculation."

Then speculate, dammit!" Why did I ever promote this lousy noncommisioned officer to his staff position of Officier D'Intelligence?

Just then a kick to the door found us listening to the sound of wood splintering as the lumber that kept the pirates out bowed and cracked lengthwise. A few more good kicks and that door is coming down.

"Sir, a few more good kicks and that door is coming down." I wanted to smack Pierre for stating the obvious. Or maybe, I wanted to smack him for reading my mind. Such is the job of a good Officier D'Intelligence, I suppose.

Lilly had heard the noise in the brig and ran as fast as she could towards it. She found that one guy who helped Rocky and another seaman, she had her rapier by her side. It was time to get this crew out of here and her Uncle, if not the crew, at least her Uncle. "Out of my way ya bastards!!!!!!", Lilly, in a lady like fashion(not) punched her way to the door. She didn't notice though that she had put back on her family crest ring. Lilly only had one thought on her mind, to get her Uncle out of here. Without knowing it a man bigger than her grabbed her by the arms and held her there. "Damnit, let me go" Lilly screamed at the top of her lunges. the big man hit her hard on the back of her head, knocking her out cold and dragging her off.

Was that Lilly?

"Jean-Rene," I beconed, "come here!" He scurried from the door where he was trying to reinforce it with the desk and chairs. The playing cards were now on the floor from the force the men on the other side of the door.
.
"We need a plan for fighting these pirates," I suggested as I waved the other officers around. Whispering among one another, we began to arrange a plan. Eventually, we would have to remove the reinforced barrier that the Sergents-chef pushing against the door. Not even the metal bowl that we were served from was spared.

"Major," one of the officers exclaimed, "we could never take this vessel! We are but twelve and unarmed. They could fight us four-to-one and use their weapons."

"If you do not wish to be restrained like the boy, I would suggest you suspend your speech." I thought on that for a moment and ultimately decided, "Rocky, I don't believe that you would try to harm us. I am going to release you from your bonds if you promise that you will not try to attack us or to escape."

As I looked at the boy, waiting for a response, I heard a harsh yell. Was that my niece?

Rocky looked up at the man. He didn't exactly hate him, but he did feel some resentment. He didn't like being tied up any more than the next man.
How could he honestly do anything about this invading army anyway? Out there it was a hundred billion to four, but in here it was twelve to one. They would hurt him, hurt him more than this crew ever would. He thought about it.
He had to answer truthfully though. No matter what, he was going to tell the truth.
"I won't try to stop you, or get in your way," he paused, "But there is one girl on this crew. A friend of mine, she's the only one that's nice to me. If you try to hurt her I will protect her, I can't lie."

Robert

OOC: Sorry everyone, my friend in vermont was sick again. So once again I headed into the hinterlands with no computer to keep you company. I'm back, again, and I'll try my best to be around as much as possible, but I can't promise. Siren, if I'm not around within a day of your reply to anything, go ahead and do whats needed, and even use my chararecter if need be I won't mind.

IC: Robert had just finished rebinding the wound on the Siren's back when he heard someone pounding on the door to her cabin. Motioning her to stay seated he went to the door to see who it was. There he saw Thorunn looking worried. "Cap'n, Mate, we've got ourselves a bit of a problem. Them prisoners of ours have taken over the brig and taken Rock hostage. We've got some men down there right now trying to force the door and one of them found this." at this word he had another sailor bring the now limp form of Lily into the siren's cabin. His eyes opening wide in surprise at seeing a women, armed, on board the ship Robert nodded to Thorunn and replied "Thanks Thorunn, I'll be down in a moment after the Lady and I take care of this."

Lilly's head throbbed badly, like a bullet went through her head. All she remembered was being down in the brig trying to get to her Uncle when a sailor knocked her out. Now she awoken to even bigger trouble, her eyes opened, they were blurred and she could only make out a man of some sort, her vision began to become clear and she noticed she was in the captain's cabin. She knew what would happen now, she would be ransomed or sold into slavery, or walk the plank. All of that training on my Uncle's ship all thrown away into the sea.... Lilly said to herself. Her eyes filled with fear and courage, whatever the first mate and the captain decided, she would face it without fear. Lilly will not play the part of a lady, but part of her Uncle's crew.

Serena frowned and stood up looking at the limp body of the girl. Motioning for Robert to lay her down on the couch she quickly slipped her shirt over her wound then walked over to the girl. "What is a girl doing aboard a ship of pirates let alone one so young looking" shaking her head. She looked at Robert a smile touching the corner of her lips. She was lucky to have him on this crew. "I will take care of the girl I want you to go down to the brig and see what you can do" with that said she turned back to the girl curious as to who she was.

My motto - be friendly

I watched Rocky's eyes and he spoke truthfully. Unwrapping the boy's bonds, I regarded Rocky with respect, "A woman is a mighty wonderful thing to protect. I am releasing you from your bonds and into the bond of your word." I looked at the other men. Some of them agreed with me, others' faces betrayed their nod of affirmation. Dammit, this isn't a democracy--I am the Major and my word goes. The last of the ropes untied and a heap of coil behind me, I reach down to help the young sailor to his feet. My arm outstretched, I ask, "So this lady-friend of yours, is she attractive?"

Rocky was very serious. He knew how to act when he was ealing with grownups. He was serious, right up onto the time he asked about how attractive she was. Then his face blushed horribly and he looked at the floor.
"I don't know," his voice almost childish, "She's nice. I like her, she's taught me a lot of things."
He went over those words in his head, wow, they really did make sense.
"Yeah," he reaffirmed himself, "She is very pretty, and I can honestly say that I do like Lily. She's been so nice to me, not many people are nice to me."
He said that last part like it was a secret almost. Looking around he saw the faces. Some of the ones that looked back he didn't like at all.

Robert

Nodding to Serena that he understood, Robert walked from her cabin and gathered up a few more crew members along the way. When they reached the brig door Robert took charge and taking an axe from one of the sailors stood by the barred door.
"Excuse me gentleman, I do believe you have someone who is ours. We would like terribly to have him back, afterall, he is a pretty damn good cook, which are very hard to find these days. So we will give you two options, either give him back and we spare you, maybe even just maroon you with food instead of turning you into the governor of Tortuga. OR, we break in the door, turn the lot of ya into fish bait, AND take our cook back. The choice is up to you." he yelled through the door. "Oh yes, and by the way, you have only to the count of 30 before this door comes down. You have my word on that." he added again at the silence that stretched out after his first proclamation.

Lilly was limped, she couldn't run and she couldn't hide. She was wide awake and looking at the captain herself. Lilly knew that this ship had a female captain, her Uncle always said that one day he will silence the Siren, if only he hadn't picked today to do such a thing. Her gaze lead her to her finger with her ring of importance, the one that said she was the daughter of a governer. She wanted to toss the ring into the sea so badly right now, but as she said before she has to take on the challenges that awaited her. "I.....am Lilly, neice to the major Devrees.......", lily said bravely, her head still ponded and she still heard the commotion downstairs, her Uncle is bond to find out she is on this ship, so she might as well tell the captain about herself.

What to do now.

IC:
Lilly? Did this pirate say my niece's name?

This was very challenging. Do I knock this punk out for thinking about my innocent young niece or do I let the other officers do it? They were all looking at the boy in disbelief. One by one, each of them looked back at me for my reaction.

"Do you want us to pound him, Major?" one Sergent-chef inquired politely. Without thinking, my head started bobbing up and down. My lips betrayed my first though, "NO! We took his word that he would do nothing to hurt us and I feel that this is covered in this blanket statement. You will do nothing to this man," I sneered the last word.

I heard a loud man beconing to us through the door. He was yelling out numbers from thirty down. At seventeen, the door opened as I had two of my men move the table. I was blinded by the setting sun at the fore of the ship which was anchored facing west.

Having moved up two steps, I blinked my eyes to gain some sight only to be shoved down the stair and back into the room. Jean-Rene helped me to my feet and the other officers and sergents-chef moved between me and the door, ready to pummel anyone who entered the room.

A silhouette of a man stood at the top of the stair. A large axe shone in his hands. Standing four feet above us, he looked huge. His muscles bulged, his hair waved in the wind.

On my feet and my head held high, I addressed the man in the doorway, "I dare say m'lord, your treatment of guests on this ship is terrible. The boy who served us our dinner was not rude like you brutes, not to mention, he spoke kind words to us.

"You are not the captain of this ship and you have no right treating the gentlemen in this room in the rude way that you have. These men are sons of nobility and have the blessings of France and Her King. You are trying to threaten me with that weapon and your behaviour, yet your captain does not even know that you are ready to harm a pricy ransom. Instead of using your less than adequate brains, use your ample muscles and fetch your captain. I invite her to have audience with me. Alone!"

OOC:
Rocky: Thanks so much, you read my mind.
"Yeah," he reaffirmed himself, "She is very pretty, and I can honestly say that I do like Lily. She's been so nice to me, not many people are nice to me."

Standing at the top of the stairs, Robert was dumbfounded by the sheer audacity of this Frog. Thinking for a moment he decided to take care of things right quick. Turning around partially, he nodded to Thorunn, and walking down the stairs he and 8 crew members came in. Looking the Major up and down he sneered. "Well, it's a good thing you opened the door, the fish probably would have refused to each your carcass, and we'd be without dinner tonight. Rocky me lad? You alright?" he said. Looking at the twelve fairly desperate men he commented again. "So, you want to meet the Siren yourself, I can arrange that quite easily for you, but it seems that you forget whose ship your on matey. Oh, and you better tell your friend there in the back (pointing to Jean-Rene) that he better stop edging towards them chairs unless he wants to be without his tongue. Now, indeed you and your men would bring a goodly ransom to our ship, but theres a slight problem, for you. We have already a hold full of gold and other things to share among ourselves so a few more pounds of gold doesn't bother us much to lose. Now in the sense of pride that a job done well brings though, such as crushing your command, thats different. Anyhow, (now scrathing the side of his face with the axe edge) I thinks it's time for a meetin' with The Lady." at this point Robert elbows aside the men surronding the Major and clubs him with the axe handle. Picking up his now inert form, Robert watches as the crew quickly binds up the remaining officers and beckoning to Rocky "Come on Boy, you need to see the Siren and have a drink." he says as he heads towards the stairs. Along the way he buries the axe right between the legs of Jean-Rene inches from his balls.

Rocky took a step towards Robert. He had no choice really, he was supposed to go see the captain. All of these guys though, they would get crushed. Literally, crushed and killed, or something worse.
He couldn't let that happen, honestly he couldn't. Lily had taught him that someone had to stand up for oneself, and what they believe it.
"No," Rocky shook his head, moving to the back where he once stood, "I'm not going to leave this brig until you give me your word you will not kill these men. They may have broken the rules, but they aren't that mean. They let me go for no reason at all, and have given me more respect than most people on our crew. So I'm not leaving their side until you give your word."

Robert

Shrugging his shoulders Robert replied to Rocky "Okay, if thats the way we're going to do it, then fine. Rocky, you have my word as First Mate that nothing shall happen to these men till after we have met with The Siren and she has listened to what you have to say. Then it's up to her what happens, after all shes the captain. Is that alright to you?" then turning to Thorunn before Rocky could speak, "Put them up in the corner and give 'em some grub, but nothing to good, afterall they didn't treat our cook none to well, and keep an eye on 'em till me and Rock here get back." then leaning down with the major hanging over his shoulder he pries up the axe from the floor between Jean-Rene's legs and hands it to Rocky. "Ready to go lad?" he asked.

Serena looked at the frightened face of the girl. So she was the neice of Deverees. She would bring a pretty ransom. Frowning Serena tapped her chin thinking, she usually didn't ransom women, and if she did it was always respectivly. She could ransom this girl to her father instead of the British government. Nodding with her mind made up she looked back at the girl. "Hello Lily, my name is not important you will know by the name of The Siren or just Siren. I can see you fear what we will do with you. Well fear not this ship does not rape women or anything such as that. Your fate is simple, I will ransom you off to your father and that is that, until then you will stay confined in a cabin of my choosing" With that said she smiled and walked to her bar "care for a drink?"

Rockingham nodded towards the men who stood around him.
"I tried all I could," he said, "I hope nothing bad happens, I promise if I can help you in anyway, I will."
He moved to Robert, following him. Rocky felt horrible, as if he were betraying someone. He was a part of this crew though, even if he didn't like hardly any of them.
"Where's Lilly?" Rocky asked as soon as they were far enough away, "I want to see Lilly. I saved her, she's still my prisoner, where did you guys put her?"

They are going to make me go back to the life of a noble.... Lilly sighed, then her face expression changed suddenly. "Then do me a favor when you send that ransom in.....", she was going to get the same treatment her uncle gave her, confined in a room for the rest of her life as a noble, like her father too, she was tired of the democratic rebulic, and acting all high and mighty. She took off her ring and handed it to the Siren, she didn't want it anymore, it only got her into even more trouble. "Give that back to him", she didn't care if she lived or died or was thrown into a crowded storage room. That's all people treated her as, precious cargo. She took those small navigation instruments of excellent craftsmanship and quality. She put those on the lady's desk, "make sure that ransom is a high one......triple it so those high powered bastards get what they truly deserve...." Lilly was not going to be treated as cargo, her head still hurt, but she had played innocent defenseless lady for far too long. She sat back on the couch and looked the captain in the eyes. She waited for harsh words of some sort from the captain, a punishment, a smack to the face, anything.

Serena raised as eyebrown at Lily's attitude. "You seem reluctant to go home. Serena held the girls ring in her hand studying then sat it on her desk and looked back to the girl. "What is it that you want girl? I can tell you do not wish to go home, if not home then where would you go?" Serena frowned slightly confused by her behavior but most of all she was curious.

Robert

As Rocky and Robert walked along the deck towards the Siren's cabin Rocky asked him a couple of questions about someone named Lily. Thinking for a moment he replied, "If ya mean a lass with a sword around her waist and a pretty good temper from what the crew says, shes in the Lady's cabin as we speak talking to her. And she'll be fine as long as she doesn't do anything stupid. Dinna worry over them laddo's in the brig, they'll be fine till ya plead your case with the cap'n." at this they reached the cabin door. Knocking Robert and Rocky waited till they heard the Siren tell them to enter and motioning Rocky in first Robert entered also. At his appereance with the major draped like a sack of grain over his shoulder Robert could only shrug at the Siren's expression. Walking over to where Lily was he placed the unconcious Major next to her. Standing up again he collared Rocky before he could get to Lily, and taking him next to the Siren asked him. "So lad, what would you like to drink after your ordeal?" and waited to hear his reply so he get him a drink.

Le fin pour Deverees

IC:
Blurred clouds receeded from my eyes and I began to focus on the surroundings. I heard mumbling and could not hear the source. Where am I? I could barely remember my name, let alone where I was or what was happening.

Three or four images of women merged into the form of The Siren, she-pirate that haunts the fair seas of Europe. My niece, apparently being interrogated sat in conference with the captain. The brute of a axe-wielder stood nearby. Something's wrong.

There is a throbbing pain in my head. My back hurts from where I was thrown onto it. I think my left arm is broken. My back, it only hurts where my body fell onto my pistolet. My pistolet. I stood up, cautiously. Wobbly, feigning massive pain. I stumbled forward and fell onto the captain's desk and then to the floor.

As I turned, my right arm grabbed the pistolet. The captain came around the desk and I jumped to my feet. The steel caught the setting sun as it whipped from under my dress coat. The hammer fell back as my arm extended and turned. My finger hovered over the trigger and I moved the pistolet in the direction of the Siren.

As I squeezed the trigger, a single bullet rifled from the short gun, directly into the ceiling as I was pulled down to the deck by the first mate. We struggled on the floor, him trying to wrestle the pistolet from my hand while I tried to shoot him. The next shot was lethal....

OOC:
Thank you for allowing me to be part of this thread. I enjoyed my time here and am leaving for NY soon and will not be able to keep in touch and therefore have devised an end for my character. Please ransom my crew and I will try to rejoin the cast as a new character in August. Thank you all.

"No," Rocky shook Robert's grip off of him, "I want to make sure Lilly is ok."
He walked over to her, looking her over. She appeared all right, he didn't want anything to happen to her.
"Your ok, Lilly, aren't you?"
He saw her ring was gone. Just then a struggle ensued. Rocky watched in horror as the major took out a gun. Rocky put himself between the gun and Lilly as two shots were fired. One was in the air, and the other...
"No," Rocky watched the body slump to the floor. He quickly knelt, holding his head. Blood came out fiercely, Rocky didn't know what to do. He knew a little about healing, but he didn't know enough to help him.
"Someone help him," tears fell through his cheeks. He watched as they all just stood there. Why were they just standing. He held the man close to his chest, hoping he wasn't going to die.
"Please, someone do something. Call for help, get someone in here. Please."
Even he knew it was too late, no one could do anything. It was over, it was all over. Rocky grasped the man tightly, crying.
(He will be missed... Superguy)

Robert

When Rocky had shaken off his grip on his shoulder, he could only grin at the Siren and shake his head in a "Boys will be Boys attitude". Turning around he saw Rocky checking on Lilly, then everything happened in a blur....

The major got up then fell onto the desk while lunging for the pistol the Siren kept there. With a roar Robert flung the Siren away from the pistol's searching barrel and grabbed the Major's arm so that the Major shot into the ceiling once. Struggling the two men fell to the ground, Robert trying to wrest the gun away from the majors hands..... then.... a shot.

Staggering to his feet Robert looked into the now sightless eyes of the Major as he breathed his last few breaths of life. Then Rocky was there flinging himself at the Major's side and crying for someone to help him. But Robert had seen enough deaths in his long career to know the Major was doomed regardless of who was there to help him.Shaking his head sadly at Robert's tear filled eyes he turned away from the body and Rocky. Robert then went and holding his hand out helped the Siren to her feet. "Are you alright Lady?" he asked.

Serena watched Rocky worry over Lily with a shake of her head. Then everything seemed to happen at once. Deverees lunged for her gun on her desk catching her off gaurd. She braced herself for the shot when she was pushed forcfully out of the way landing hard on her side reopening her wound. Groaning out a curse she watched as Robert wrestled him to the ground. Another shot went off and Serena's heart seemed to stop as she prayed silently it hadn't hit Robert. Both men were still until finally Robert pulled away and she breathed a sigh of relief. He walked over to her offering her his hand. "Are you alright Lady?" he asked. She reached up for his hand wincing as it pulled on her wound. "As fine as I can be with a knife wound" standing she turned and smiled at Robert "thank you for that"
