So, who loves photography? I see a lot of people with "Photography" in their interests section of their profiles, but it's a rare conversation topic on the boards. Even erotic photography isn't really discussed, just shared and drooled over.... well, at least I assume it's drool.

Let's talk about photography. Here, or over at the Visual Artists hangout.

I know there are a lot of people on this forum that love the topic after all.

Here's a couple images I snapped on a road trip last weekend to ignite some conversation.

Now, discuss :)

I like color. Black and white can still be beautiful, obviously. In fact, my pops used to surround me with ansel adams prints...which I loved and still remember fondly.

But I like color. I love contrast in color. Light and dark. I'm especially drawn to cityscapes and time lapses of night skies.

I enjoy your darker pictures. There seems to be a lot more feeling to them, at least for me.

It's probably because I spend more time on them as I also like them more. I really like contrast and vividness.

Techie photo speak!

I took my camera out of the case intending to use it after 2 years-haha, I was pushing the menu button trying to take a picture. Sigh, back in the case it goes.

Here's my go, Tol. at "Discuss":

The scene invites the landscape shot - the shape of the mountain, the direction of the river. And yet ... the portrait shot has all that space for the foreground interest of the shore and the rocks and the play of the water. I wonder also of the fury of the cloud cover is expressed in a fuller way in the portrait. And of course the trees offer a verticality to the composition. And yet ... that mountain; it is a wide bulk of a thing and not a tall tower of a thing ...

So I await your own take with interest!

I meant discuss photography in general, not my specific images. I just felt like the first post should have a photo in it :p

I'm more inclined to shoot portrait orientation lately. I tend to have stronger compositions when I'm in portrait, also I shoot portrait for all of my panoramics. Guess I'm just getting accustomed to it.

Oh Iceprincess.. I told you to let me know if you had any questions :p

Yes, but when I can't find the shutter-is that what it's called-then I am beyond help. I did take the lens cap off though!

Got me thinking about a favourite landscape shot of mine taken with a very simple camera.

But I wonder; does it mean a lot to me simply because I was there and it was a remarkable day alone in the wilds? Can that 'sense' of a photograph transfer to someone who was not there? Is that the real challenge for the photographer?

I am not a big animal lover in pictures, but I like that the background beyond the water is almost empty. It's a simple picture-meaning my eyes are not trying to look at everything. The water is what I am focused on and it feels like it's moving. I like it.

I've posted a few pics I've taken in the other photography thread. After years of neglect I am trying to get back in the swing of things but the weather where I live is absolutely atrocious most times which makes it difficult. When the weather is nice it's usually when I'm at work.

That said, I'm trying to move toward natural still lifes (i.e. not posed) and would really like to get into portraits but finding women to pose (non-nude) isn't the easiest since who wants to agree to model for some random stranger?

Today I went out early and was doing some testing with my flash (SB 700) to get used to how it works off camera. Haven't looked at the results yet but I did document what I did. Used the PAID rule (power, aperture, ISO, distance).

Fantastic that you want to get back into it.

As for the bad weather.. Use it to your advantage? Make moody shots. Or shoot from a different perspective.. You use flash, maybe some shots under a street lamp in the middle of the night.. (we don't always need a beautiful day for a beautiful photograph)

I've gotten out of photography. I use to consider myself competent. Never short of commissions and I got to snap some pretty amazing locations all over the world. But it was because I enjoyed it and not for money or recognition. When it became less about what I wanted to do and more about what others wanted I completely lost interest. And even resented the requests.

Recently I was asked to do a wedding. A friend of mine was getting married and I happened to be there with my camera. Good job too as the hired photographer compmetely dropped the ball. Now others have seen my work and want me to do it. They're not very good at taking no for an answer.

Basically this is a long way of saying that it's a shame what was once a passion has now become a chore.

That is indeed a shame. I've actively tried to ensure my photography remains my hobby. An outlet for reducing stress. It's hard to do :(

I Love photography.....and have fund much joy in learning photoshop. Sometimes the sky isn't quite right, or you were so excited to get the shot didn't pay attention to something in the forground or background. Can just edit it out.

Happy world photography day everyone!

I knew it was Photography Day and felt guilty for not taking any... photography, hehe. I hope to get some good ones this fall. Wish I had those trees around that you mentioned though.

And I love how you word that you just "snapped" those pics in your original post. That are not snapshots, those are works of art!

Right place right time, with camera in tow. We were driving home from a trip to my in laws (who live on the other side of the mountains from us) and I couldn't resist stopping here. Hurried the shot as the family was waiting for me in the vehicle. So, to me, these are snaps. I'd of done some long exposures of the clouds drifting across the peak of the mountain if I'd had the time.
