Photography thread...

Yeah I agree, Minx, that is really a lovely view of the water with the sun in the reflection.

Thankyou, I spent a couple of days on this lovely island last week and that night we used a sauna and then went in the water right where the picture was taken. Lovely! :)

I keep meaning to post a few pictures to this thread. No time like the present.

Just a couple of shots from my neighborhood.

My morning exercise walkway. One block east of my house.

At the south end there is a park. Once Evey month or so, the neighborhood association has a "Sunday in the Park." Everyone brings chairs, food and wine and there is a group playing in the gazebo- usually jazz, but sometimes a folk group.

Incidentally. If anyone posts pictures on Flicker, the stock photo company, Getty Images will be contacting people with nice pictures about licensing them for commercial use. It won't replace your day job, but could be an occasional source of a few hundred dollars.

Nice pics...looks like a nice walking environment.

One thing to watch with stock photo sites is if you ever have any aspirations of making serious money from photography, royalty free stock photo sites (not all stock photo sites) can damage that possibility. Firstly, it is a way to get photos for use at less than is usually paid to a professional so is similar to bringing in cheap labour to replace workers wanting an award wage...secondly, there are stock photo sites and companies who will help you sell your photos for commercial use at a legitimate price and who will also refuse to act on your behalf if you have used royalty free sites in the past...so though one might make a few hundred/thougsand dollars over time on a royalty free stock photo site, overall it could lose the same person much larger payments from a legitimate firm willing to pay fair rates for photography work. It is worth thinking about either way as it is a growing industry which is slowly eroding photography as an art form and viable profession.

Thanks. The area is near downtown and I can walk to almost anything in 15 minutes or less- good for high gas prices and when there is a storm and streets are blocked.

I don't know all the details. The only thing that I saw was an indication that Getty was doing a 60% Getty and 40% photographer split. They said that the average usage fee was around $500 -meaning $200 for the photographer. The only immediate reaction was from the pros who shoot every day and were concerned about the "Sunday photogs" competing for the available business.

That sounds like a more legitimate deal, though would pay to see if it means giving up ownership of the photographs. I know a few months ago I was approached by a few of the royalty free stock photo sites scouting Flickr and began researching it...I also have been approached by tourist organisations which was cool. One of the legit stock photo sites I found takes a percentage of the sale cost (can't remember the figure now, but it wasn't enormous), and places the photos on their site for the photographer, and either negotiates the deal or puts the photographer in touch with interested companies to negotiate directly with them. Photographers can often retain ownership unless they sell that as well.

Even though I didn't get to photograph near as many things as I wanted while in Spain, nor as well as I wanted if circumstances had been different, it is taking awhile to post them etc., due to energy and limited hand use...here are some I have uploaded though. I truly cannot believe how many beautiful and astounding things we saw and hope to go back and see more someday.

A photo shoot for Olympics boycott we came upon in Barcelona...

Beautiful! More. :) Hope you are feeling better. Having a hand problem is a real drag. Ever since my accident over a year ago, I have been fighting to keep one going. We just don't appreciate our little mitts until they quit working. :(

Thanks. LOL, not sure I haven't appreciated my mitts until now as nearly everything I love doing requires my hands and it has played on my mind often how I would manage without them, but this accident has made me practice using my left hand more which I had been planning to do but kept putting off. So wish I could go back and take the pics again, but it is not practical is it?!! Will have to upload some more tonight.

Oh that would be cool...definitely let me know if you are ever headed this way. Amsterdam is beautiful in the spring, but still lovely any other season.:) And thanks for the compliment...I would have liked these to be better, but have to go with the moment and all that goes with it.
