I think, hey I'll buy a phone and take it with me while I travel... good idea you think.

I buy a prepaid card so I have all my bits and are all set to go running bout with it, and what do I find out... Prepaid mobiles dont roam, so dont leave the state next to yours or the fucking phone dont work.

Handy thing, these cell phones aren't they.

(I just spoke to em and I cant even get it fixed so I can roam with it)

My daughter reently changed her Cell plan to one that advertised "nationwide coverage with no roaming charges."

Apparently Chicago isn't part of the "Nation" they cover, because on her recent trip there her cell phone didn't work (they had cell phone service where shewas visiting, just not compatible with the company she has service with.)

Sorry to hear about your experience with the cell company. Sounds like your sales person didn't ask you enough questions about what you were using it for.

Don't take this the wrong way, but those prepaids (from what I remember when I last worked in the cell phone company) are designed to attract ppl that can't afford or don't have credit to buy a regular plan and strictly for instate (emergency type) use. That's why if you notice the cost per minute for prepaid and regular monthly plans is sooo extremely different.

Good luck and hope you got your money back!

If it just roamed I would be fine... i would get one under contract if I was here long enough...

Fuckem, fuckem all.

All the coverage in the world and my card is banned from accessing... I WILL find a way around this.

Just a suggestion

I know Verizon offers a 2 week period to change your mind... even under contract. Depending on how long you're in the area you need... get a plan that would work (make sure they have cell towers in the area you're visiting!!! or permission to use other companies towers if they don't) and then return the phone/contract... You might just have to pay a small amount but wouldn't be tied to any contracts if still within the 2 week trial period.

Just a suggestion.

I have 45 dollars worth of prepaid calls that I cant fucking make when I'd like to, when I actually need to.

i'm gonna be such a phone whore tomorrow.

I think this is going to be the male version of Amelia's stick it to the man.

This sucks hun...too bad you can't find an option like oceanbaby mentioned...sign up...but then cancel before the "trial" period is over. But then again...you'd have to get their promotional offer and that probably would set you in a roaming area too...and then wouldn't work anyway. Sheesh technology.

Wish ya luck...I'd offer you mine to use but alas you're too far away again.

If only.. if yeah... pain in the ass... and I would have to buy a recharge card in a different area if I want it to work there.. that was this guys solution.... what a crock of shit.

The coverage is nationwide - there are just holes in it. It is surprising that a large metro city was one of those holes, but let me guess - it was AT&T right?

A person can go look at the maps of where the coverage is - there are huge holes, the total area where there is no coverage is much larger than where there is coverage.

I got caught by surprise when I went down to california and got charged for roaming, I had assumed they were covered in my regional plan, but I was mistaken. No biggy - it was about the same as switching plans for one month anyway.

Whenever you buy anything you do have to look at the details - I don't think it would have been too hard to find out that a particular phone and plan doesn't give you roaming beyond a certain area. Usually when something like this happens I get mad too, but eventually I realize that the person I should be mad at is myself as I was the one that screwed up. I've been mad at myself a lot lately.

this is probably the best suggestion because of Verizon's return policy. Because you are not a US Citizen, it may be necessary to have someone co-sign with their social security number, also. Verizon does have prepaid options on their phones as well, so check to see if they can customize something for you.
I have been very impressed with their service...they are far better than AT&T, and more interested in working with the consumer. My only fault with them has been that they forget to turn on things of import, such as net enable...and something important in your case, international dial.

good luck

Your phone company has cocksuckers?

That's a service I wish my company would provide.

hmmm, my prepaid phone roams, we have to watch it cuz the state is divided into two regions and roam eats double minutes. I was going to say i didn't know if it worked out of state but i remember we used it to call home from Chicago.

Told ya so :p

He could go under contract with the company he has, with just a passport and be good to go, no co-signer. 'Cept the cocksuckers only have a 72 hour return policy.

He could also just get a prepaid SIM for each state he visits.. but that's usually $20/ SIM.. and it means getting a new phone number everywhere he goes. It's the easist solution, just not the most convenient/cheapest.

It worked outside Kansas for AIM for some unknown godforsaken reason.

Hasn't worked before or since.

Curiouser, and curiouser said Alice.
