Grateful Dead - were.
Out of the numerous shows I attended - a few in the booth with Dan Healey - I never experienced the X-factor at all. And listening to their records/CD's today, I find that they pretty much blow.
Garcia has some cool stuff goin' on guitar - quite a few times. Mickey and Bill get some stuff goin' too. Weir simply blows. Lesh is marginal. All the other's - fluff - noise.
Their material was retro/roots-mix from the very begining - and over many years - never 'went' anywhere.
And their harmonies? What harmonies? Nails on a blackboard.
However - out of all the bands - all the bands past and present - I would have liked to - I would have had the most fun - in the Gratefull Dead.
I mean - screw being good. Especially if your having fun.
