Petition to NOT ban nude pics from literotica

Agree with the consensus here. Guideline rules are fine to ban certain (extreme) content that can easily be found elsewhere on the net. But a total ban on nudity is too far.

Owners of Lit, do you hear us?

But you know what, if you’re going to ban nudity please eliminate the politics thread. I ventured in there once only to see the hate and disgusting comments - from both sides. Why keep a politics forum on an erotic sight. Eliminate the hate, keep the nudes.

It’s possible that I don’t understand the reasoning for this change, but if there are offenders that violate rules, warn them. If there are repeat violators, ban them.

I understand Literotica is first and foremost a literature site, but erotica, sex, sexuality and nudity go hand in hand. Is there something wrong with nudity?

If there is an attempt at a moral high ground statement that is trying to be made, or worse, a sad attempt to mollify ultra conservative and puritanical hypocrites, then it is the beginning of the end.

I find it odd that several of the posters in this thread are among the ones who have committed large numbers of image rules violations resulting in many of their posts (in some cases, hundreds) being removed or edited.

We've been trying to tell you for a very long time to follow the rules regarding explicit images and posting images you don't own the legal rights to. We've repeatedly linked to the long standing site wide image and content rules. We've posted and updated them at the tops of various boards.

We've flat out told you to stop, warned you to stop and cautioned that if it continued, rules would be changed in a way your wouldn't like.

Well, now, here we are.

You really have no one to blame but yourselves.

To be honest, I wouldn't be totally surprised if Admin fully disallowed ALL images.
So, punishing the masses because of the few that won't follow the rules, and apparently no one actually punishes them. Sounds like a great reason to me. Now if the owners just came out and said it's their site and this is how we want to run it, that would be one thing, but you alluding to this being a massive punishment is complete bull.

I guess I'm not understanding the reasoning posted in the original thread about what the rules are changing... Because of privacy concerns with others around you? Aren't we all adults here and can manage when and how we look at content? Also, if there are repeat offenders posting inappropriate things regularly, ban them! It sounds like most people in the forums are following the rules, seems very odd to punish the masses for this. Also this feels like a weird censorship thing with bogus excuses. I support moderated pages but with consistency and fairness, but I don't support a full out ban. Also, I'm happy if it goes to links only, but find it weird that there's been no clarification on that since the post has been made even though the questions have been asked.

Looks like my posting days are done when this new rule is enacted…everyone knows I’m just a simpleton show off 😬
Oh well I’ll just focus on what I can control and ride out my freedom of expression privileges here, until I can’t…

On the plus side, If this new ban does materialise then we can all move over to the politics threads, spout our opinions and argue pointlessly over which side of politics is better than the other. Can’t think of anything more exciting on an erotica site guys 😐

There's not much more I can add that hasn't already been said!

I accept that there has to be rules and guidelines - that goes without saying. But to impose a ban on posting nude pictures is beyond comprehension - especially in todays day and age.

I came to Literotica through a recommendation of a friend - I was hesitant at first from being on other Forums, but was pleasantly surprised once I'd settled here.

Whilst you will ALWAYS have the rule-breakers who think that they're big and clever, and post images and articles to shock rather than engage with the Lit community, the majority of people here are pretty switched on, savvy and generally abide by the rules.

I have met some wonderful people here, and formed some very close friendships! ...and it saddens me deeply that, I and they, are being punished for being ADULTS.

I cannot believe that a site that has stood the test of time on the Internet, and has flourished into something quite remarkable, is about to come crashing down. I believe someone here has already mentioned the affect it had on Tumblr when they imposed a ban on nudity. From being at the pinnacle of Erotica Websites and Forums it has plummeted and has and will never regain the status and respect it used to have.

If the powers that be at Literotica decide to go ahead and go down this path, then it will follow in the footsteps of Tumblr and others of a similar ilk.

I for one, was one of the ones who cancelled my account with Tumblr when this happened, and I am sad to say I will do the same again with Literotica - and I know I will not be the only one!

Erotica and the social acceptance of nudity has come a long way since the baring of the first ankle being depicted in an image.

Enjoy these pics whilst you can here on Literotica...

I could go on! ...I have a whole folder on my laptop of such obscenities!

I apologise to anyone if I've offended any 'Snowflakes' here by posting these Classic Masterpieces of Nudity and Filth.

I hope above all hope that someone at Literotica comes to their senses and understands the gravity of what is being proposed.

Susan 😢
thank you Susan - like you, I am pausing posting - and the Forum can watch the tumbleweeds blow xxx

If we’re having an all out ban on posted images, I take it you’ll be removing the adverts for live webcams at the home page and login screen? I know it probably generates funds for the site but you can’t have double standards. Maybe think about changing the logo for the site too? The silhouette of the barely clothed lady is a little close to the mark don’t you think?

Don't ban nudes. Most adhere to the rules on the pics, some slip up abs part more than they should, and yes there are those who break the rules on purpose. Ban the rule breakers who do it knowingly for so long and then longer if they persist. If they try to make a different log in, the system should be able to flag it from previous account info being used again.

They do this to us at work, if one store has a problem with something, then all stores have to change because of the few.

Don't penalize those with creativity and follow the rules please.

For an Erotica site not to have nudes is nuts and what of the artists in the art section some of those are exceptional.

If space is an issue then limit the size that can be posted.

The site might be called Literotica but that doesn't mean it has to be words only in the illustrated section there are some great art work to go with and add to the flavour of the story.

So lets retain the tasteful nudes for people to enjoy rather than head for the Victorian times where even ankles became taboo.

As much as I enjoy many of the picture threads (especially those marvelously and carefully curated "...for Ladies and Lesbians" series), I understand the concerns of the owners of the site. In the world today, sites such as this have to be extra vigilant to avoid being on the wrong end of a legal action that could bankrupt them, or worse. Having grown up in the Usenet era, I remember the problems that arose even in the text based world of erotic story telling. A web site with an international reach has to be aware of the laws and mores that are the realities of the world.

The problem with what is acceptable in erotica/pornography is that there is no objective standard. However, all of us have a line we draw (for example, no stories involving children in sexual situations; if you think that's a no-brainer, in Usenet days, there were newsgroups and sites dedicated to stories that would be classified as child pornography today. Free speech absolutists were outraged when those sites were forced to go dark). This is a special challenge for sites that are for-profit, as this one is (though I've never quite been able to figure out its business model).

For those who say, "just add more moderation and monitoring," be aware that those are not free. Depending solely on volunteer moderators isn't a recipe for long term success (see Reddit). We often forget that Literotica doesn't charge us for being member here or for using it as a platform to publish our writing. Many authors (not me: I'm nowhere near good enough) use this as a marketing tool to point people to their Amazon page or monetized web site. The owners here have been more than generous in not trying to crack down on that or to take a cut of their sales (see the Apple App Store). How many of us who post here would be willing to pay a subscription fee to do so? Remember: infrastructure isn't free.

As for the picture forums, while I enjoy them, I suspect there are more major copyright issues than meet the eye. In many countries, it's an accepted rule that, with some exceptions, a photograph of a person belongs to them. I wonder how many of the people whose pictures are posted in the forums know they're being published at an erotic site? This represents a potential liability to the Lit owners. Managing copyright in the 21st Century is not for the timid.

Bottom line: while I don't agree with every decision of Literotica management, I understand they're trying to make a living while providing an outlet for people who want to do more than write stroke stories. The owners have a vision for the site. Since they're paying for it, and have invested a good portion of their lives in it, I owe it to them to extend grace when they make decisions I don't like. Certainly, express your opinions to them, but don't vilify them. To paraphrase Churchill: Literotica is the worst erotica site, except for all the others.

Oh no! She is going to have to go then

Are there alternative options where normal consenting adults who want to share nudity can legally do so?

Maybe a moderated Telegram channel, with well-defined rules (e.g. nothing illegal by any means, no beastality, etc.) & strict privacy settings for everyone's safety (e.g. auto-delete after some agreed-to time period, no copy & pasting, etc.)?

"Many Literotica readers (and authors) shared with us that they visit the site on their phones and would prefer not to have NSFWs images on the screen while someone else is looking over their shoulder."

If you are dumb enough to look at an erotic site with someone looking over your shoulder, I can't help you. Neither can Literotica by banning nude images. You'll just do the same with some other NSFW website. Don't spoil our fun by complaining about your own inappropriate behavior - idiot.
