ROM said:Well, a little "I'm kinda busy right now" wouldn't have hurt....but it sounds like the person in question was a little over-sensitive about the situation. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Now, if you had responded to a couple of PMs, and then just suddenly went silent, without even so much as a "fuck off" or anything.... that would have been kinda rude![]()
bartrules said:PMs aren't IMs. I for one would prefer a considered response rather than a rushed one.
As for etiquette, yes, a "no thanks right now" may have put an end to it (depending on their state of mind), but surely consideration goes both ways. Anyone (naming no names) who's stated that they don't IM can't be made to feel guilty by someone misusing PMs as an IM substitute.
...maybe there should be an "Absolution" thread where people could post the cause of life's little niggling guilty feelings and the good people of Lit could explain why "it wasn't really your fault in the first place"?

Excatly the reason why I have sig lines turned off.MsTexas said:People who have a sig line thats bigger than the post they make. When you scroll the page its nothing but their damn sig line.
Is there a rule for how big a sig line should be? If not, there needs to be one

If everybody kept their signatures simple, like I do with mine, I would have them turned on as well. But I'm annoyed with all the images and flashing things, and sometimes huge sig lines, so I've turned them off.Ekserb said:And yet you have a signature of your own. Why do you have a signature if you don't believe in seeing them? Would you recommend that everyone turn off the ability to see signatures?

Men who scratch themselves in public ... its just gross and disgusting, cant you guys at least wait till you're alone or where no one can see you?

Lorali82 said:This isn't really a pet peeve of mine so much as an etiquette question, but is it considered rude to not answer a PM right away? I was online earlier today and I got a couple of PMs from a guy wanting to chit chat. Anyway, I didn't feel much like getting into a conversation just then so I let them sit intending to answer them later. I went about my Lit business and I got another one from him about a half hour later apologizing for "bothering" me. This has happened to me on a couple of other occasions, but most of the time when I get a PM that I don't feel like answering right away I just let it sit until I feel like replying (usually about half a day or so). Is this rude? Are PMs supposed to be like IMs? Should I have told him as soon as I got his first two PMs that I was busy and didn't feel like conversing just then but maybe later?

Lorali82 said:Ooooh! Also, men who spit in public. Disgusting.
ROM said:Yeah - that's me too. I hate people who spit in public. It's just damn nasty.
Somehow, the sound of someone hawking up a gob and spitting goes in my ear and activates the bundle of nerves that controls my gag reflex. Ick. Even thinking about that sound makes me choke a little.
Living where I do, with the people in the area, this is something I have to deal with on a daily basis. I've almost come to blows over it before.

This so unnerved me one day that I had to leave the room I was waiting in and go outside and get some fresh air, even though it was raining. I realize this may offend the tobakky chewers but I'm sorry...I consider this act foul.
