Apparently today in my feedback I'm a pervert that needs psychiatric help now. Why do people read stories on NonConsent/BDSM etc when they think it's sick? What is the point in it? Surely the site is clearly defined into seperate areas!

Sorry, needed a steam release lol

My un-professional opinion is that they know darn well what they're reading. Like you said, the site is clearly divided into sections. They are shifting the blame. It's your fault they are reading the non-consent, incest, or whatever story.

People don't want to take responsibility for their own actions. They justify what they do, sometimes by looking at a more "severe" manifestation of their own weakness. For instance, they might think, "Well, I'm only checking out a story, for goodness sake. It's not like I'm actually spending my valuable time THINKING UP this stuff and writing it down. THAT's what's REALLY sick."

It's as if they think that if they can come up with someone who is "worse off" than them, they can see themselves as not so bad after all. "Well, it's not like I was stealing. Joe Neighbor claims his dog as a dependent! All I did was claim a few dinners with my wife as a business expense."

It's funny, because my largest work posted her on the site is all about non-consent, and the woman goes and falls in love with her captor. Completely unrealistic. It's sick to even think that such a thing could really happen. Yet, no one has ever written me to tell me I'm sick. What's with that? LOL. I'm just as sick and twisted as the rest of you! I swear!

and another in one night

Anonymous writes

'This is the worst , cruelest and most degrading piece of shit writing ever have I read . You are so sick its very frightning to have you out on the street near more normal people . Should be jailed . And quickly .'

I mean this is fantasy! I can't work out whether I'm the twisted one writing this stuff or they're twisted for taking it into reality?

Two in one night is enough to make me quit writing lol. Although saying that I have had loads of positive feedback too I spose. Shouldn't be so sensitive if I want to write.

I agree with Whisper about it, however, there are some people who don't realize when they click a direct link into the story what category it's in. Make sure in any thread that mentions your story that you specify the category to warn people who just start reading without looking at the mention at the top of the story, itself.

Whisper, I remember something at the beginning of Hostile Intent that was a bit of a disclaimer. That might have deterred some of the more obnoxious people from telling you what a pervert you are. ;)

There's no accounting for taste, SummerMagic. Some people like to troll stories in certain categories and write to every author about how sick they are. The best thing we can do is shrug it off. They're on a fanatic mission, which puts them into Bin Laden's camp, as far as I'm concerned. Don't let them have the satisfaction of thinking they affect you at all.

Just my two cents --

Depends for whom you write.

I write for two audiences, paying and non-paying.

If I am writing for money (which I make a living doing) I care what they think because it affects my income.

Her I am writing for a non-paying audience, and that really means I am writing what I want to write for my pleasure. If other people like it, I feel good; if not, that's their problem and not mine.

BTW: Anonymous criticism isn't worth a light, and if I ruled the world, unregistered posts would not be allowed either.

That is true. I did post a disclaimer:

Warning: This story contains explicit descriptions of "forced seduction" and rape. If you’re reading this to work up the courage to rape someone, find a psychiatrist. This is pure fiction. Despite what is depicted in this story, women do not enjoy being raped. If you’ve been raped and don’t relish the possibility of reliving the horror, don’t read on.

Maybe that's what's keeping me out of the club. LOL.

I still feel left out.

LOL.

Think I'll go with the disclaimer bit

I think thats a good idea lol...... 5 stories later the penny drops doh!

I think maybe my hormones are a little wonky...... I'm 6 months preg with my 4th baby, so being referred to as sick and being told I should be in jail sorta hits below the belt.

lol who knows..... maybe I'll shock them all with a pregnancy BDSM story hehehe.

One thing I did note, is that on all the positive feedback there's an email addy included, those with nothing constructive to say omit that bit. Maybe they're hiding behind their own weaknesses...... just a thought.

Maybe they meant it as a compliment ;-0

Look, if you are writing cutting edge bdsm, then chances are you are squiking any number of people. Hell, I feel if I haven't squicked at least a coupl'a folks, I haven't done my job.

Keep doin what you do and focus on the people who write you and say they haven't seen someone touch on that in a story before.

Cheers!

What is the defination of a pervert?? People's defination difers according to their taste. For example, I classify anyone finding sexual pleasure with children and/or animals as perverts.

I would take the feedback as a compliment SummerMagic. :) Apperantly, the story has touched the reader to bring out his/her emotions.

Also, remember most people consider Stephen King as sick and demented. I happen to consider him as one of the greatest writer in our generation.

A couple of thoughts strike me. First -- most people do not think Stevie King is a sick individual, just a few vocal idiots who can't tell the difference between reality and fiction anyway. Second -- the definition of perversion rests in whatever society (the majority, anyway) thinks it is. We're taught by our society to feel that having sex in front of a child is wrong, therefore it becomes a perversion. In some remote society or another (I can't remember which or where, but I did read it somewhere) children and parents sleep in the same room. The children see sex often. It's treated as normal, so the children are not a traumatized bunch, but actually treat sex in a healthy, open manner. If someone does that here we put 'em in jail. My own definition of perversion is anything that harms another person, whether emotional or physically. And fantasizing about harming another person has its dangers, but I can't say someone who writes about a murderer in a realistic fashion is, themselves, a murderer.

Whisper -- okay -- you're a sick, perverted individual. You should be put in a straight-jacket and locked away from us normal people. :p Feel less left out now? ;)

Charmbright brings up a point about marketing. Really now, that's my soapbox subject. (everyone who wants to yawn can do it now ;)) If you care about the opinions of others in order to keep your audience, you really can't take the minority opinion and try to go by that. If the majority says you're going in the right direction, then it's best to ignore the rest (unless, of course, you happen to agree with the minority!) I write what I like first, then think of where I want to publish it, whether that be pay or not. What are the requirements of the publishing house? Here, I wouldn't write a story where the main character is fourteen and the theme of the story rests on that fact. Lit doesn't accept those. But, as for personal preference -- you just can't please everyone.

Most of my feedback is anonymous, with no return addy. If I took out the anonymous then I'd lose a lot of positive and even real constructive stuff. You can turn off the anonymous feedback option if you really hate it. Fortunately, the anonymous posting is still up and running. Some of the most entertaining threads come out of those. Better than late night television, they are! :D

I can and do write what the buyer asks for, regardless of personal preferences. In my "day job" I write about the advantages of whatever my customer is pushing (usually on the employees) without mentioning that there are other ways of doing things which I, personally, would prefer.

In our field I write hard BDSM for money, but I have never even spanked a sexual partner, let alone used a belt or a whip.

Now tying up, thats a different ... and then cold white wine, licked off again.

Locked up

Well, gang, just lock me up and throw away the key! In some parts of the world (after all, we are talking about the www), I would be killed just because I'm bisexual. Right away, ninety percent of the people who knew me growing up would send me to Pervert Palace.

I think the best thing to do is to try your best to realize that repression is bad, evil. People are not innately sinful and have to repress "tendancies." Think about it, everyone, yes everyone wants to love and be loved. But when denied, a perverse desire to overcome the denial takes over and BOOM! a lotta bad shit can happen.

Summer, I think the words from your Anon feedback were more directed at the themselves. Sort've a Mea Culpa, but directed at you for arousing them.

Oh, by the way, Mickie? Just lock Whisper, Summer and I in a room together with a few scented candles and a lot of lube for a while, okay? Please?

;)

Only if I can watch, Judo *evil, mustache-twirling grin* I suppose that makes me perverted, too. Perhaps I belong in there with you, anyway! :D

Thanks x (looks up to Judo's post and smirks)

Thankyou all, back onto a hormonal level now and writing again lol. Your opinions were all valued and appreciated.

Judo! I like you <g> I rushed off for me candles until I realised you were on the other side of the water lol.

Incidentally..... if you wanted to know or were interested..... Rach is just fine )
