is every thread an opening to bash the US, and the American people's suspicion of the unknown?

Yes!

85% of everything produced in Canada drives down the 401 into the USA.

The largest industry in Ontario is auto manufacturing for US export.

BC is presently crippled due to its largest industry, softwood lumber, being barred under NAFTA.

If Alberta sees the feds sign Kyoto, the Oil & gas patch will virtually dry up, in particular Syncrude.

The oil and gas on the east coast is all flowing south.

Quebec electricity export is a major part of its economy.

The Ontario government spends hundreds of millions of dollars annually on advertising, trade offices, public-private partnerships, tourism, etc etc...all aimed at remaining close not to the rest of Canada...but the US.

Remember all the fuss about Canadian trucks held up at the border after 9/11? Canada is the hewer of wood and toter of water to our colonial masters.

That's a start for you, Mr. NBA, MLB, NHL (likely) NFL-wanna be Torontonian.

Because we exploit their lack of natural resources as a source for export income, we're now considered to be a part of them?

Funny, and here I was thinking the suppliers of the material were usually the ones relied upon.

I'm a hockey fan, yes... what does that have to do with anything in this thread?

Don't forget... you had presidential elections suspended once before during wartime, yes?
Um . . . no. Unless I'm suffering from a monumental brain lapse, there's been an election every four years since 1792.

In 1864, there was only half a country to vote for, though.

I couldn't understand why people were so afraid of anthrax. It's noncontagious, treatable with antibiotics, and if caught soon enough, nonlethal. Yeah, the idea is kinda spooky that someone would try to poison large quantities of people, but as one medical expert said, you're more likely to die from driving panicky to the hospital to get Cipro than you ever are of dying because you contracted anthrax.

Yet if someone spilled a packet of non-dairy creamer on an airplane, people shat themselves.

Dropping in to see where this has gone.

It has turned interesting, for sure.

Please, keep going. This is very good.

I grew up for the first part of my life in a minority neighborhood where I was the minority. I returned in my highschool years after bouncing all over the Houston area for a while. Being one of the twenty or so white people that went to our schools I wittnessed racism/classism first hand. Not towards me but from a subculture of underacheivers vs acheivers.

I've seen more racism among adults here in my later years than I ever did at school. I quit my last job because the backwater lady I worked with was so racist against anyone non white and non christian that it became sickening. I've always been able to identify with people of all creeds and cultures because I've taken the time to educate myself to some degree, but some of the adults I've been around the past few years have made me wonder if the gene pool doesn't need some chlorine. The paranoia against cultures or religions different from conservative christian ideals has stunned me. How in this day and age can people still be so ignorant?

Perhaps there are more fundies around now than there were a few decades ago. Perhaps I'm not paranoid enough. Perhaps I'm just too focused on the plight of things like my bank account and getting my kids off to school to consider that there are alot of people out there whose soul focus is to destroy anything or anyone who doesn't belive like they do. Maybe I should be more paranoid about a couple of Middle Eastern guys who just wanna learn and make money, but honestly the first thing I'm gonna think if those two guys walk my way is...I wonder if they eat pussy.

I know where you are coming from.

I grew up in mostly black and chicano neighbourhoods and I loved the differences and sameness there.

It was funny being the only white kids in about ten blocks, but I was one with everyone. We were all just kids lumped together, trying to be kids.

How people can be so hateful is beyond me. I agree. I am more worried about my son having clean clothes and paying my bills than I am about what someone who doesn't look like me is doing.

Fear is a powerful weapon, folks. Use it wisely.
