Ok, I'm not sure if this goes in the forum or the cafe, but I found a new way to deal with unwanted bruises. Today I went to see my grandma, and she accidently slammed my hand in the door. She slammed it pretty good, and I was already getting a bruise. My grandma went inside and got some peanut oil (like what you cook with) and put it on my finger. Within about a minute the bruise was gone. I still don't have a bruise. She says that's always what she uses for her bruises.

So. If you get a bruise you don't want, use peanut oil. It works instantly.

Interesting. I have to try that sometimes. I play rugby and work in a bar so I collect lots of pretty colors.

I have heard of using peanut oil but it sounds very effective.

You would have to be careful not touch someone with a peanut allergy though.

I seem to burn my hands alot when i do the ironing.

(a good reason not to do any  )

Once i have run it for several minutes under cold water I use lavender oil.

A small amount of pure lavender oil stops it blistering and takes the redness out of it.

I keep Aloe Vera plants for that. Break off a piece of a leave and use the sap. It's a miracle! The plant will heal itself.

For bruises or burns?

And who gives you bruises??

Burns!

I tend to hit myself when you disobediently avoid your well-deserved punishments.....

I NEVER deserve punishment!!!

Unless its for hijacking graces threads of course

And, as its her thread she gets to dish out the punishment :p

Next time you decide to hit yourself can I watch ?

And take pictures

PLEASE???

:D

I would strongly suggest that you NOT put peanut oil on a burn. Putting oil on a burn is a good way to make it worse, cause it heats up and causes more burning. You should also not put on butter or margarine. For burns, I normally use Aloe Vera gel. You can get it at any drug store, and then keep in in your fridge. Just think how good cold aloe vera gel would feel on a burn.

Aloe Vera is also great for bruises and welts. It just doesn't work as well as the peanut oil did.

I really don't bruise easily (I think the last time I actually bruised was when my one foot went through a thin layer of grass into an open pipe...nearly broke my leg because my leg went one way and my body the other) but when I do, they're HUGE. I'll definately keep this in mind, because people always give me horrified looks on the rare occassion I actually have a bruise.

I'm your exact opposite. I bruise ridiculously easily, and because my mother is Irish I have pale skin. They show up everywhere. When I was in the Kindergarten classroom I was constantly banging into wee tables and chairs during clean up and bruising my legs. Anything I hit hard enough to notice will bruise me.

My current point of mystification is a bruise the size of a pea in the middle of my knee. It has a corner. Did I hit a corner with my knee somewhere? Apparently. Can I figure out where? Not at all.

Thanks. It was a new one to me, too. That is till my grandma used it on my finger.

There is so much that can be learned from previous generations if only people take the time to listen and keep an open mind. I often wish I had been fortunate to have living grandparents but some of their words of wisdom have ben passed onto me through my mother when she talks about them.....makes me wish even more I had known them face to face.

I didn't really believe that the peanut oil would help. Last night I hit a box (standing in the middle of the way from bedroom to bathroom :( ) with my shin. It hurt pretty badly. So I was like, the weather is good and all, a huge bruise will not look pretty with my skirts. I didn't get one. I'm still a bit suspicious, but more optimistic. Pretty weird how some things work...

I was skeptical myself. My grandma tells me to do lots of things that don't work. But she was there with the peanut oil, and I didnt' figure it'd hurt. Then she showed me her hand. Evidently the day before she'd been getting into the freezer, and the lid fell on her hand (it's a chest freezer). She showed me where it had broken the skin, but their was NO BRUISE. She said that it's cause she put peanut oil on it immediately.

Now, I've seen my grandma's whole hand bruise for no reason at all. If something fell on her hand it should have left a huge nasty bruise.

Plus I am very anemic. I also have been off and on prednisone for 4 years now. Predisone makes the walls of your veins week. I have gotten bruises on my hands just sitting and watching tv. I can sit and watch bruises appear. I should have had one heck of a bruise. But I didn't even have a pink mark! Me and K are thrilled, cause worryng about bruises has made thing very tense for us. I just dont heal right. So next time we're 'playing' we're gonna try the peanut oil, and see what happens.
