You're just noticing this OP?

In the service industry, women tend to make more money in tips, too.

That's because we are cuter and nicer, of course. Or maybe we are all just a bunch of hoooores, and we get more in tips because "pathetic" men are pretty sure we'll put out. ;)

At least on the internet you can reap the benefits of being a woman by pretending to be one. In real life, all you get is people humming Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady" behind your back.

Not if you are really convincing in drag. If you are pretty enough, you, too, will get bigger tips and higher votes on your most mediocre stories. That's how it works! :D

They aren't sure the women will put out, but the guys want to be remembered in case she does.

I'm 6'5" and about 320 lbs with a full beard, so I don't think cross-dressing would work for me. I have a hard enough time finding men's clothes and shoes in my size.

Ah, well probably not, then. Conchita Wurst can pull off drag with a full beard, but she's exceptionally pretty. :)

But back to the complaint of the OP of this thread: I assume you are male; your pen name and writing style indicate you are, and you haven't made your gender ambiguous. Yet you don't seem to be suffering low scores on your stories from throngs of "pathetic" males who are so disappointed by the fact that you aren't female and they won't be getting lucky with you. In fact, your scores are quite good. So maybe, just maybe, the scores you receive might be indicative of your talent as a writer, and how well you connect with your readers -- regardless of the gender of the author or the audience. Just a thought...

FXY, I already assumed you were a guy, which is as much as anyone can "know" on this site. And I'm glad to see you took my post in stride instead of responding adolescently.

The entirety of my post is summed up by how you responded here:

So there you have it. A contradiction to your contradiction.

I think what you've run into is a conundrum that will never be solved. There are no adequate ways to determine who is who (or what) on this site, so to try to qualify and quantify the validity of their responses with such a minimal amount of reliable evidence is useless. And seriously, why should we even bother? We aren't paid authors here, so we shouldn't expect any level of professionalism when it comes to the critiques of our stories.

The best we can hope for is to get a "feel" for the particular audience that reads our wares and decide, from that, if we want to either patronize or ignore them. Trying to delve beyond that is futile.

No no! I'm sure mine is bigger than Willie's ;)

Maybe, but I apparently "hit home" ;)

Ba-dum-bum *rimshot*

Hey, Slyc, I wish you would do a FAWC where entrants have to post two stories - one from a male and the other from a female PoV. It would be fun to hear the reasons why people guessed the author and also the ways they think gender has influenced the writing style.

FAWC is in libido, unfortunately. I agree this would be an interesting idea for it, but I don't currently have the time, energy, or patience for another FAWC. I wish I did, truly.

Sorry I couldn't resist picking up on that delicious Freudian spelling error!
:D

Honestly, I expected a lot more explicit messages than I get. I mean, I am a woman, writing about explicit sexual activity. I quite like when fans write to explain exactly what effect the story had on their body parts, I regard that as a sort of measure of success. Men sometimes write me gentle wistful messages like: "You would never want to meet up with me, I am from Luton." To which one can only say: "We can't all be wafted here from Paradise, my dear."

Awww, bless them.
:rose:

I originally had my gender selected here, but a year later changed it to not specified because I began publishing for sale under a female pen name so if anyone stumbled here to lit and saw my stories it would keep up the facade.

On the boards I am obviously(some might say painfully) male, but story side I write a lot from female pov, dont have a gender declared and have a thumbnail pic of a certain redhead. I never intended for people to think the pic is me, but I think that is the assumption.

I get a lot of interesting comments about how hard my stories make them and etc...and I don't think they would say that if they knew they were talking to a guy.

I don't know if its that I pull off female POV well, or its a case of as the OP states "sausage nation" wants to believe I'm female because they think its hotter and they want to think they are flirting with me:rolleyes:

I started writing female POV stories as jeanne_d_artois.

Originally I didn't reveal that jeanne was also oggbashan. Jeanne had some *interesting* approaches despite her bio showing her as older.

I came clean on a 1st April. Some people were annoyed that they had been 'deceived'. Now I make it clear that jeanne IS oggbashan, but 'she' still gets some *interesting* PMs, presumably based on her AV.

Fag-Ash_Lil doesn't attract the same sort of responses. :D

Yes, I am a man.

I think my stories score well because they're in a popular category and they are somewhat original.

I do think that authors who complain about their scores are being unrealistic about the quality of their work. I'm very happy and a bit surprised that my stories score as well as they do.

I think you're correct about connecting with my readers, who are probably filthy perverts. Like me. :)

Actually uh ... I believe some men will try to pick up anywhere. Not me of course ;), as I am a 52 year old ex-rugby player with mommy fat. However my friend is constantly propositioned on trains and even in bars where she goes to drink because they are so ludicrously expensive she thinks she might be allowed to have her floral martini in peace.

The city I live in is famous for jolly hen and stag parties, and on Fridays and Saturdays it's full of women in suspenders and party dresses, some with a large 'L' plate attached to demonstrate their virginity ;). There are also the 'valleys commandos', women who are so-called because they come in from the neighbouring villages at weekends to find a man, take him home, ravage him and throw him back out after they have had their way.

I think men who actually want a quick fuck find more practical ways of seeking it than voting anonymously on stories which are written under a pseudonym, on a website full of people who may be the other side of the world.

I do get PMs sometimes suggesting naughty activities, and if I reply, the PMer is always extremely surprised. I think that they just want the thrill of *gasp* writing something dirty to a woman! and would in many cases be terrified if the woman said: "Yes! Yes! Here is my address. The front door, my negligee and legs have all been flung wide open. Come (ho ho) immediately."

Mostly, though, I think the site is full of people like me, who enjoy our sexuality and like sharing ;). Thank you, guys and gals, for reading and for whatever votes you left and for the comments (even that weird one). Especially the mysterious 5 which has gone on my latest chapter (it's the only vote, LOL), and which I suspect is from my friend who would never hassle me on a train or in a bar, who like me loves to chat about 'fine literature' and maybe have a little harmless flirt.

THIS ^^^ is the funniest thing I've read all day -- even funnier when I imagine it read in your (I assume) British accent. Thank you for the giggle. :D

LOL, I have an extremely correct RP British accent. Once described as Mary Poppins reading soft core <snerk>.

(That commentator didn't get a quick fuck!)

When I was a young man I discovered sex was as easy as asking for it. I asked women who came to my door asking directions, I asked women I met walking across campus, I asked many kinds of strangers and women I knew. Most said YES if a bed was handy.

Fifty years ago I was romantic, today I'm entirely utilitarian. Keep a bed handy.

I do think that authors who complain about their scores are being unrealistic about the quality of their work. I'm very happy and a bit surprised that my stories score as well as they do.

Hmmm... if their scores are high, readers are thought by authors to be incredibly sensitive and perceptive geniuses. If their scores are low, they're thought to be illiterate, humorless, dim-witted idiots.

And sometimes they are... ;)

Still Pathetic

OP Here...

A couple of thoughts or themes have come up in this thread, that while interesting, weren't what I had in mind when I first penned my sleep deprived thoughts.

One of these thoughts seems to be that I am complaining about low scores and poor comments on my own stories, and imagine that I would do much better writing as a woman. This is not the case. I am perfectly happy with my stories' scores and appreciate all of the comments, even the bad ones.

The second, more pervasive thought is that the pathetic men I am referring to are outright asking for sex. This would actually take at least a small degree of confidence on their part, and that isn't the pathetic behavior I was talking about.

The pathetic behavior is more subconscious and doesn't actually include deciding to on an action to try and get laid. Instead, the throngs of the pathetic subconsciously praise anything they perceive as coming from a woman. These pathetic men also just sit and hope that some woman, any woman, one will notice them. Women aren't immune to this either. There are plenty of wall flowers in any social situation.

Of course a guy can use the plan where he approaches almost any woman and asks her for sex, hoping to get enough takers to satisfy his urges, but this is also pathetic behavior.

Nothing easier than making claims on behalf of someone else's "subconscious."

Nothing easier than making claims on behalf of someone else's "subconscious."

He is half right. His opinons of a certain type here are spot on.

Where he is wrong is saying its subconcious
The actions of this type of man is very conscious they know what they do and why they do it.

Because they are pathetic.

Trust me no one here has a lower opinion of certain types of men here than I do

I get having a low opinion of mouth-breathers on the Fetish boards or something, but what XY is doing is basically not-so-subtly devaluing the work of female writers by claiming that the bulk of reactions can have nothing to do with their actual quality. That part I'm not buying. (And not because I'm subtly angling for any female attention, either, I mean I just don't buy it. I don't see any reason to assume that people are reacting or not reacting to stories that way.)
