I'd say lust is a simple form of passion, desires that have only a surface value.
Passion is something you long for that you can feel deep inside you.
Lust can be flighty

Lust: For me, it is almost completely a physical need. HE looks good, I get wet and want to be with HIM. Whether we are together or not, the lust dissipates until I see HIM again.
Passion: Far more emotional, more more driving. Having a passion for music, food, nature or sex makes it a requirement for my mental and emotional health. I can be driven by passion. My judgement can be skewed by passion. Passion can create a cloud over my vision and thoughts wherein lust disappears as quickly as it came.
With another cup of coffee, perhaps I will be able to make a bit more sense?

Lust is desire to fullfill your own needs. As a child lusts after icecream and tantrums when they don't get it. But I neeeeeeeeeed it mommy. Of course they don't but they believe they do. Passion is more fullfilling. I think passion requires love. Erica Jong wrote about a zipless fuck. Fucking without elements of love is not passionate. It can be satisfying. You can feel passionate about work, politics, people, you family, and that feeling comes from love.
