If we go with your symbolism I wonder about the bird woman fairy creature taking the young woman's essence and her power killing the birds... i'm not sure... i love to go to art galleries and sit in front of a work of art like this and think of all these things.

Well see the dead birds is apart of her mind, they're dead because her imagination is starting to flow away and the bird woman is something she made up in her mind, I think it's what she wants to be, maybe symbol of freedom, free from everything just like a bird. At least that's how I see it.
