I'm having a New Year's Eve party. I realize that my taste in music does not adequately represent EVERYONE'S taste in music.

So, here it is. I'm deferring to you - the people of Literotica - for music suggestions. I need dance songs of every genre and then music to just "hang around" to.

So, what'll it be?

Please, tell me that was a joke. ;)

If not, please remove yourself from the guest list.

OK, OK, I was joking, please don't beat me!!! Or.........

A child of the 70's speaks

OF course...NO DISCO!

Some of my favorite party tunes would be....

Rock and Roll All Nite : Kiss

Money Money

Time Warp: Rocky Horror Pic Show

Party like it's 1999 : Prince

When everyone is really drunk,

YMCA! Watch all of your friends make asses of themselves trying to be very large letters!

:D

Party Party Party

Rob Zombie - American Made Music to Strip By - good rock/rave type remixes there.
Prince is always a winner. 1999,Little Red Corvette,Purple Rain,etc.

Some others to just play and hang with.... I would go with...
Pink Floyd,Godsmack,CCR,DMX,etc. A little mix for everyone. Have a blast. Later.

Forget your own taste, you want people to have fun being drunk and stupid. MissTaken has good suggestions for mindless fun, but I say you should throw in a couple of disco tunes, just a couple. "Play That Funky Music White Boy" will fill the dancefloor, Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" is a hoot.

Rock and Roll from the fifties and sixties works well with ALL age groups. Elvis' "Don't Be Cruel", Little Richard, Chuck Berry, people love the Beach Boys. Early Beatles will make people dance, James Brown, who can resist "Satisfaction" by the Stones? "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Orbison, Shocking Blue's "Venus" how about a little "Polk Salad Annie" by Billy Joe White? Trust me.

Even though it's great music, you should avoid the following at a dance party:

Pink Floyd
Led Zeppellin
Bob Dylan
Alice Cooper
Fleetwood Mac

Good listening music, but way too intelligent for a crowd of drunken dancers. Think fun and stupid, "I'm Too Sexy" or even the dreaded "Hokey Pokey" will do better than trying to impress people with a rock masterpiece. Funky is good, "Fame" by David Bowie packs a punch. "I Want You Back" by the Jackson Five will send them flying to the dancefloor.

You need a couple of slow songs here and there for people to grope eachother to, "Unchained Melody", "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. Save "Purple Rain" for the end of the night, people will go off somewhere to fuck after this one.

"Paradise By The Dashboard Light" will kill 'em.

I guarranteeeeeeeee!

If nobody feels like dancing, then by all means pull out the Floyd and the bong.

What kind of people are at this party?
This topic, much like the author, i can sink my teeth into readily.

My recommendations for energy and fun:
Bionic Jive
Self
Jimmie's Chicken Shack
Limp Bizkit (say what you will, they are fun...)
Incubus
The Urge
2 Skinnee Js
Newcleus - Jam on It (i love this song...)
Sum 41

My recomendations for chill moments:
Sneaker Pimps
Massive Attack/Tricky
Blinker the Star (some of this is more up beat..)
ON

My recomendations for Oldies:
Elton John
and pretty much all the oldies that have been mentioned so far will do nicely.

Looking back over this list I can see that I would have a good time at your party, but maybe no one else will....oopsie daisy...
You know your guests better than we....
how about this: You can never go wrong with hip-hop, techno and booze....

I was just thinking that it would be cool as hell if you let Literotica choose your music in real time... open up your PC to us, we can program you up like a jukebox and it can roll form there..
The pressure is off of you becuase it's 'out of your hands' and it would be a cool conversation piece as well.....you can have some web app whipped up that will let us control your cd-player and mp3 player from the net....now that would be fresh..

oh, and can i have your baby?

Completly off topic I know!!

but I just have to know if that avatar is of your belly SS??

Well....ummmm. I'll be honest and say I have never heard of most of these people.

Open up my computer to a group of perverts? Allow you people to pick my music? That sounds "dope". *grin*

I'd be almost afraid of what would be played!

oh, and can i have your baby?

Yep. Let's start baby making!

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions so far....keep em coming. Specific songs always welcome. :)

Its not just a schoolboys wet dream.

Depends who you are having of course, but cheesy 80's stuff always seems to work well.

so unlike me

I'm actually going to some new years bullshit party...only going for the drugs though...I've got connections
those who are hosting this party have excellent musical taste(part of the reason I like them so much)

I like a little of that old school disco...donna summer...what could be better?

My host has tastes akin to my own
really into DJ stuff like John Digweed and Sasha, Paul Oakenfold
Darren Emerson, late of Underworld.
Club music, rave stuff...best drug music money can buy!

And the best thing is that at no point during the evening will you HEAR even one note of that fucking moronic HIP-HOP BULLSHIT.

I was at a party one time and some kid tried to put on some rap shit, fuck if I know what it was, this dude I used to know, before he got locked up, took out his gun and shot the fucking stereo!
I was so fucking stoned at the time...all I could do was laugh...
