October 1, 2020, is the deadline for people to acquire their Real ID. After George Bush ignored almost eight months of daily warnings of an impending attack, an attack which led to the worst terrorist attack in this country's history, one of the recommendations was to force people to prove they not only exist, but that they are true citizens. Real ID requires evidence of your existence and who you are, because there's no way one can use form of fake evidence to prove who you are.

Note how in the accompanying picture, the ID shows not only your face for easy identification, but has a star for even better identification. After all, what true citizen would object to having a star as a form of identification?

If you choose not to have a Real ID, you will not be able to fly, board a bus, or access any government buildings. You'll be subjected to questioning by the authorities about why you refuse to be identified as a true citizen. You may even be investigated for your anti-establishment ways.

Real ID will solve all our problems. You'll be scanned, tagged, and tracked wherever you go, followed like the criminal you are as you go about your daily business of funding the very organization which considers you a threat.

What is it? What is it for? I know, domestic flights and getting in nuclear power plants and stuff. But is it a national id, or for a big brother facial recognition database, for enhanced national security/safety, or more privacy invasion, maybe an immigration tool...is it good or bad (insidious)? Will you need one to buy a gun? Can I get a chip instead? Or a tattoo that can be scanned? Lots of stuff floating around.

I’ve got a passport, so why should I worry? This would be the second to last poll option.

As someone who lives as anonymously as possible online, I don't have any issues with the Real ID. Gotta fly and the less hassle, the better. I do avoid any deep background checks to get thru security faster tho. No need to get foolish about it.

And really, to lay this at the feet of any single administration is stupid. It's been 15 years. Plenty of chances to repeal if they wanted to but no attempt got very far.

In most EU countries you have to carry, and produce if required by a police officer or other authorised person, a government issued ID - but you are not required to in the UK. That is one reason why the UK is attractive to illegal immigrants - they can vanish from official notice.

But to access some services I need an ID and the ones most usually required are a driving license or passport. For example, I can't collect a parcel from the Post Office without one or the other. My bus pass and my blue disabled badge, even though they show my photo, are not acceptable.

I will probably save to surrender my driving license soon because of health issues. My passport has expired because the same health issues impede my travelling. If I want an acceptable ID I will have to renew my passport.

I have an NHS Card which had the same number as my National Identity Card issued during the war. I had to surrender it when I went to live in Australia for two years and it was replaced when I returned with one letter changed to show the place of issue.

I have a National Insurance Number which is used for my pension and taxes.

I have an NHS number (not the same as my card) to show my records with the NHS. I have a local hospital number to fit with their records.

I have a driving license number with an obvious code showing my date of birth.

I have a passport number on my expired passport which will be needed when I renew it.

I have a bus pass number.

I have a Transport for London Oyster Card number.

I have a number for my account at the Dartford Crossing.

I have a Blue Badge Number.

I have bank and credit card numbers

I have numbers for store loyalty cards.

I have numbers for membership of professional institutions and interests.

I have a number for membership of the AA (British roadside assistance).

I even have a number as a member of Literotica...

This is clearly an infringement since the Federal government is telling the States, your citizens must get this ID, or else. You are free not to have the ID, but then they won't be able to do certain things without an interrogation.

In France, some form of government issued Id is required:

There have been proposals to make an ID compulsory but they are stalled. But not having one can be awkward if one has contact with the French police services.

There are federal ID options, you don't have to get real ID.

I'm not, I'll still be able to get on planes, trains and public federal facilities....some not public ones too
