Pagan Corner

That sounds interesting. I'll admit I had to look that up...

These days the only sage I use is to stuff a chicken breast :)

A very joyous journey to you, dear Sufi!

It is one of my traditions...lots of energy around, I also do it during the winter solstice, some people believe a single dose can change your brain chemistry and kick you out of the winter blues...it an intersting trip for me always.

Just stopping into say Hello! And I hope everyone had a wonderful Solstice :)

Blessings to you all,
Rayven

Would anyone knowledgeable about the Tarot be willing to help me interpret a tarot reading I recieved? I wrote down the cards and their placements so if anyone willing to help would pm me, I will share that with them. Thank you.

Feast of the Larvae

May 09 Every year

In Roman mythology, the larvae or lemures were the spectres or spirits of the dead; they were the malignant version of the lares. Some Roman writers describe lemures as the common name for all the spirits of the dead, and divide them into two classes: the lares, or the benevolent souls of the family, which haunted and guarded the domus or household, and the larvae, or the restless and fearful souls of wicked men. But the more common idea was that the Lemures and Larvae were the same. They were said to wander about at night and to torment and frighten the living.

On May 9, 11, and 13, the Lemuralia or Lemuria, the Feast of the Lemures, occurred, when black beans were offered to the Larvae in the hopes of propitiating them; loud noises were also used to frighten them away.

Lemurs were so named by Linnaeus for their big eyes, nocturnal habits and unearthly noises they make at night. Some species of lemur were identified by their calls before scientists had seen individuals.

Then a raised glass of spirits is in order! Leave it to you to just pop in out of the blue with something like this... You are still cool, my lovely, sexy, prettiest lesbian on Lit

Long live the lemurs!

Is there another story to go with sand dollars that is not christian based? Pollyjean and I went to the California coast for vacation and found 30 or a little more of them whole.

Almost a year ago but sure. :rose:

I'm writing a book on my family history with cards.

If the cards were dealt a year ago, of what use would the interpretation be today?

i do readings that are usually spot on for friends, they actually come to me for it sometimes out of the blue, but then again my card deck is different from the normal deck so maybe that's why? i've had a few that didn't quite reach the mark so while i trust my readings i have trouble trusting others readings of me.

I don't pretend to understand. That said, I don't believe either. I guess I'm just too tied to an empirical mode of seeing the world.

Readers often don't trust other's readings of themselves. I also find it impossible to trust readings I do for myself.

i can't really read for myself, it just doesn't work very well, once in a while it makes sense but not very often.

Hey, Tarot bullshit! Yay!

My Granny taught me how to read them when I was little- to the person who was like, "My cards seem to be more accurate, it might be my deck"- my grandmother said that it wasn't the deck, it was the reader. You can give a reading with a plain old poker set in a pinch.

Cards that we use in a deck today are kinda descended metaphysically from Tarot cards. You can also play poker with tarot cards, if you're an asshole and you don't care that people kinda treasure presents from their grandparents.

My Nana (Great-Grandmother) used regular playing cards and my Noni (her daughter) taught me how since I was clearly curious. When I got a bit older Noni and I studied the Rider Deck in depth. she belonged to a group that would send large cards with line art and we would color all of the symbols to learn about them properly. There's a lot hidden in that set but i don't use them now. At the last event that I did readings for just a few weeks ago, the word got out. Which is what usually happens after a couple of people get wowed. And I explain that its not magic or being psychic at all. Its a hard hat to wear when you can feel people admire you or look at you deeply like you know more about them than you're letting on. My tips filled up and I was able to buy a couple of beers. It was a festival and I just had my cards on a beach towel; no booth or anything fancy. One lady went googoo over my shawl and I sold it to her. She was pretty damned surprised that I'd let it go so easy... but its just a thing and it made her very happy so...
