Ayup. I got out early because I did extra credit. Both our kids were born just before the cutoff date, and daughter #1 was promoted a year. So we graduated at 17, 16, 17. But the vast majority who graduated with us were 18.

Being born in December, I was one of the youngest in my class, and except few outliers, everyone was 18 in the second semester of senior year. Now, they are even a year older generally, as result from constantly ongoing mis-reforms. Also, we have driver's licenses only from 18, not 16 as Americans (from 16 one can legally drive a scooter, including a mini-car built on a scooter's engine).

Well, this is history from elsewhere, ex-Soviet space now trying rebranding into northern Europe.

I honestly don't remember what the relevant legal sex age cut was in Soviet Union, I would have to look it up, but believe it was legally those same 18, with some exceptions (mostly covering cases when both in a couple are younger, that was generally legal, even if officially non-existent, and it was also possible to legally marry at 16 in special occasions). Anyway, it didn't matter to me, when I was in high school we were in void between legal systems with no actually acting laws whatsoever.

(Seriously, when you called police complaining about laud neighbors or domestic violence or even petty theft, they apologized that they can't come to investigate because they have no fuel for their cars. Mostly, they wasn't lying, they indeed haven't. Salaries weren't paid either. But I also was aware of a case where battery and rape was allegedly committed by police officers on duty, which no consequences for them, of course. Generally, if you had contacts in the mob, calling them was often a better option, better chance of swift and fair justice. How ordinary the life was in such conditions seems like a miracle in hindsight.)

So then and there, one could be peer shamed for still being a virgin at sixteen. However, only absolute creeps had anything with younger than that. When my GF sister walked in on us, I freaked out that she might be still fifteen. Seriously, it just wasn't acceptable.

As to why try and squeeze stories into high school, it is just such an unique environment. There's something inherently nonconsensual about it, even. College just doesn't have that pressure on virtual strangers from wastly different backgrounds to socialize tightly. Plus virgins and all the rest, overprotective parents and all. Those stories just don't read true in college, if even possible to transplant.

Sorry for resurrecting a contentious thread. I have a coming of age story I would like to post somewhere that is not capable of fitting into the restrictions of this site. I understand it is Laurel's site, so I am looking elsewhere.

The only site I have found with my online searching is ASSTR. That site appears to barely functional and it doesn't appear to allow new authors.

I have found several sites that previously did not have an age restriction but have added one. I guess my online search skills are lagging.

My story only contains interactions between same age characters (no pedo) and it is mostly tame, but definitely not 18+. I would generally prefer whatever site is most mainstream/traffic that does not have an age restriction.

I also understand this site does not allow direct links to other sites, but something like ASSTR without a direct link should be more than enough.

P.S. I'm sure members get tired of hashing out the same stuff, but this thread did illuminate the boundaries of what is allowed on this site better than I was able to figure out from the FAQ. Same also of the somewhat recent thread on consent/non-consent.

If yours is a sweeter coming of age story, have you considered watering it down and going to a "young adult" oriented site,rather than an erotica site? Assuming, of course, that that's what your story is.

I think that's probably a good choice. I used to read stories there years ago but got fed up with the subscription requirement, and Lit has more than enough stories to keep me busy now. They have a decent story collection and a large readership, I believe, but not nearly as large as Literotica's.

Agree that this is an alternative for the material cited. Since I do some writing to give volume to various fetish niches, not because I'd be interested in doing that myself, I have works there that wouldn't be accepted here. They don't rate as high as stories do here, but they have a readership.

Their one real advantage is they have a much better reading interface. And - for subscribers - allow story downloads in several formats, including text, ePub, and mobi.

The best stories there are well written. The worst? Pure cesspool. Approach anything with a rating below ~7 there with caution. Below ~6 with a hazmat suit.

!!! Whut? I always felt that their reader interface was much worse, with all that blue space on both sides. Plus, most modern browsers come with a reader view (that is what it is called on Safari and the plug in for Chrome) that will pull all Lit pages into one nicely formatted page.

It’s configurable - font, text width, background. In a way that the browser options aren’t. Agree the standard view is kink of sucky, but take 5 minutes to configure in your account settings and it’s much better than the Lit view, even using the browser read view.

Yes, when the more main stream, non-cesspools sites like Literotica put in age limits, you end up with only the cesspools sites allowing it. So both the stories and readers you get work against anything else. Rather frustrating and sad to see such a death spiral. I read plenty of coming of age type stories similar to what I want to post on main stream sites before age limits went up and I don't remember them being overwhelmed by the pedo element you get today.

Most of the story was written years ago, I don't think I would start such a plot today. I wish I had posted it years ago.

Well, I guess I should say my story is tame compared to what I found by perusing the ASSTR site. But given today's touchiness, I don't think I would want to water the story down enough to post on young adult. Thanks for the suggestion though.

There are plenty of sites that I find incredibly hard to read and most have fonts that are smaller than I like. For some sites, like Literotica, using the zoom function works. For some sites, zooming does not change the font size on the screen.

I usually copy and past everything into Notepad+. Black on white text that I can make whatever size I want.

I too cut & paste stories. Though I drop them into a Word document, resize and bold-all, then save the file as a .pdf and upload it to my Kindle. That way I always have a selection of erotic reading material I can enjoy anytime, anywhere. For years I traveled extensively. My Kindle kept me occupied on many a flight and through long layovers.

Posted in Non-Erotic or Essays, sure. In Humor-Satire as a Bugsy Malone type thang, maybe. Or in Poetry, where you'll get 20 readers and a 4.6 score. Just keep it non-sexual.

That's why I have a custom CSS sheet for the story page, using a Chrome addon called User CSS. My sheet does a couple of things for readability. Simple stuff like font family, size, and justifying it (so it fills the whole width of the reading area). It also make the reading pane slightly wider and puts it in the center of the screen rather than off to the left. A new reading page is in the works apparently which might solve some of these readability issues, but I have no idea how long it's going to take before that's rolled out for everyone and not just some beta testers.

Feel free to send me a PM if you want to try out the addon and get a copy of my sheet as a starting point for your own tinkering with the formatting.

I just got a story rejected for underage, but all three characters are HS seniors, talk about graduation and which college they are going to. I thought it was pretty clear in the opening lines that they were seniors, as they had been 'in the same [high] school for 4 years'

Is a disclaimer that all characters are over 18 now the expectation? I resubmitted it with a note for the reviewer, but am now wondering if I should have put the disclaimer in.

Most, but not all, US high school seniors turn 18 sometime during the school year. Two of my best friends were still 17 when we all graduated the beginning of June in the year <way too long ago to mention>. So simply having them be HS seniors isn't a guarantee. It depends on the cut-off date for when kids start school and that varies by school district around the US.

In one story I had two high school senior girls seduce a college guy on spring break (March) of their senior year by having the one introduce herself to to the guy with "They’d wanted something ‘extra’ since both had had their 18th birthdays earlier in the school year and Mel had told him ‘your super cute soccer playing ass just won the lottery’. "

We can argue if that was the smoothest possible way to do it, but that made it explicit in the text their ages at the time the sex happened and removed any ambiguity at the situation. That was the only mention of age in the saga (which is now at seven so far submitted stories) which continued with the women starting college and their ongoing adventures.

I've never used a disclaimer nor would I consider it sufficient. If my characters are borderline I'll work out a way in the story itself to make it clear (per the above as one example). I have used the "18 year old" tag more than once, but I consider than an advertisement not a disclaimer.
