Over 18 and living at home.

Behind every housing shortage you'll find a well thought out rent control program.

Try again, dickhead. We don't have rent control in the UK.

They don't have potable water in Beijing...

London isn't the world.

It's a minority.

Much of the world believes in family and our decadence.

Too bad Paris didn't stay home!

It is. If not rent control, then zoning, mandantory 'green zones', all manner of devices to drive up costs.

Note the use of the word "every".

Yeah. In fact, most of the world would think it shockingly odd for unmarried 18 year olds to leave the nest.

My point exactly. We used to live with our grandparents, now we visit them...

But anyone that does is a "fucking loser." Ish said so. Just like he said the housing shortage in the UK was down to rent control. If Ish said it, it must be true.

Of course, if you're sponging off others to get ahead, well, that's OK. :)

Parents never consider helping their children save money as "sponging." At least, mine didn't. Although I was in the same house as them, it was a duplex. Cheap rent let me save enough money for a nice downpayment to build my first home. I never had to live in an apartment in my life.

Actually, my parents weren't all that happy when I left. They liked having me around and weren't pleased with the idea of having to rent to a stranger when I left, or having to sell the house to move to a single family. Luckily, a sibling helped by moving home from out of state and taking my cheap rent spot. that worked for another 4 or 5 years until he, too, had enough money for a great downpayment on a house.

Without helpful parents, neither of us would have had our own home so soon.

my inlaws did the same.
even after they married they stayed...until they built their own home on some family land.

that house was recently valued at 1/4 million pounds.

had they moved out and started on the first rung of the property ladder, they'd have a fraction of that and the bank would still own lots of it.

the cost of housing is insane right now. nobody paying rent can afford to save enough to buy...people are getting higher than 100% mortgages here.

I grew up with my grandparents, too. (They had the spot I rented before they died.) It was wonderful, and something I'm very grateful I was able to have in my life. All that time spent with grandparents is very precious, especially once they are gone.

I even had a great grandmother in the same house when I was very young. How lucky is that? A mom, grandmother and great grandmother, all in one home.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, there was dad's house, grandad's house and great-grandad's house all within a rock's throw of each other, placed around the spring...

Freaking TeePees. I thought we'd burned the last of them out back in the 1880s.

Add gasoline to shopping list.

I'm off to toss stones at the Beagle...

Deer season has him just about worn out, I may have a shot at hitting him...

I got two deer yesterday. Missed one too - a great day for my freezer.

Good luck, I'm channeling to the Beagle - a warning and a plan to get your leg in his jaws or your stoop under his feces.

Ahh, fair. Life is fair and we should all get behind government to make it fairer.

Parents can suck up to their kids all they want. It's a free country. Or is it?

Ishmael

I was out early. There was no debate. My HS grad gift was luggage. I got a job and learned a trade and the rest is history.

The final steps in growing up are a challenge when young adults live with their parents. Sometimes living with parents is a needed option, but many more times there are family head games contributing to the idea.

However, free rent and cable would be nice again.

I lived with my mother till i was 40 but it worked out great for both of us, i helped take care of my grandmother till she fell and broke her hip and did not want to walk again, and we had to put her in a nursing home.

Then my mother decided not to drive anymore due to all the idiots on the road and she was afraid of them so i drove her everywhere and then her health took a turn for the worse and she needed someone to help her out.

I was 40 when she died and she was happy to have me there when she needed help, now i live alone and am happy.
