Ummm, no. I don't agree with that at all. You might as well argue that since my genitalia simply wants lubricated friction then being licked by a dog is just a tad farther down the road than being licked by a woman.
A person who wants to add to the intensity of their pleasure with a bit of pain is not a hop down the road from someone that finds pleasure in pain; they're seeking two totally different and unrelated sensations and experiences sexually. Likewise if I were to pinch my nipple while masturbating you can't convince me I have anything in comment with someone who splits their dick in half and pierces their urethra.
